Martyg Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Hey all, this is my Heritage H-150. Saved up for it and bought it during high school back in the late 80s and have had it ever since (I have the original hardshell case for it as well). I know from the serial number it was manufactured on September 9, 1987 and was the 6th guitar made that day. My question is, does anyone know what model Seymour Duncans were used back then? Also, does anyone have a source for pickup switch knobs (the piece of plastic that screws onto the post)? Mine cracked and broke off ages ago. Thanks!
davesultra Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Those appear to be Schaller pickups, which were the standard from the beginning to about the mid/late 2000s'. Heritage ran into supply chain problems with Schaller around the mid 2000s', which was the reason for the changes in hardware & pickups. Pretty cool to see one of the earlier ones, especially a goldtop. As for the tip, I would imagine you could get one off of eBay. They're cheap enough you could get one for standard and one with metric threads seeing as we don't know who manufactured the 3-way switch.
gpuma Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Just FYI, that looks like a H-140, not a 150. You can double check by looking under the control cavity cover.
HANGAR18 Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 I agree. Probably Shallers but looking under the pickups during your next string change would confirm that. Nothing wrong with installing a Tone Pro bridge and some actual SD pickups either.
Martyg Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Hey guys, thanks. I guess they're Shallers then. Any idea what models were used? I'm not looking to change anything hardware wise on it, I'm pretty happy with everything (except the problems I've been having of late keeping the G and B strings tuned, probably didn't pre-stretch them enough before I put them on).

My guess would be that they are Schaller "Golden 50's" pups. You might want to have a look see at the nut slot and saddles of the the B and G if your having some tuning issues. Those tuners could also be getting a little "older" now too. The PERFECT cure is treating yourself to a brand new H-150!
golferwave Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Schaller called them "Golden 50's" - Many people love the tone of them.
TalismanRich Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Welcome Marty, Definitely that's an H140. That model has the sharp Florentine cutaway, the dot markers and standard Schaller humbuckers. The Schallers are pretty typical in terms of humbucker specs, Alnico 5 magnets, usually around 7.5 to 8 ohms, and moderate output. The dual mounting screws on each side are a dead giveaway for Schaller. They have 3 mounting holes per side, so you can go with 1 or 2 screws. The dual screws keep the pickup from rocking. The old 140s are great guitars. My cherryburst 140 is also a D serial number. Good balance. light weight (which is getting more important these days) and it feels solid as a rock, even after 30 years. What's the story on the artwork on your goldtop?
