Hi everybody,

What's the best way to get a Heritage H535 or Prospect to Australia? Secondhand might be nice; to save some money.

Apologies if this has previously been discussed...

Thanks.

P.S. On a random note, what do people think about the Collings i35LC?

I'm going to say by Airplane or Boat. Driving just seems like it would take too long. ............... :icon_salut:

We have Australian members. I'd expect one (or two) of them to chime in soon.

If I were you, I'd contact MillenniumMaestro, Beyond a stellar collection and offerings, he can get you that custom guitar you dream about AND he ships to your continent. Sounds like a win2!

You are welcome to message me, I have worked with Aussie buyers in the past and shipping can be pricey but my customers in Australia already expected that from earlier purchases.

USPS has a Global express shipping program- guidelines restrict any box over 46 inches in length and other restriction... That appears to be the most affordable alternative.

Global Express delivers in apx 3 days if I remember correct and is insurable to $2500

PS. let me know if there are other options you find that may be better price wise etc....

Millennium Maestro is a great "Guy" to work with. He helped me with every step of the way to get my custom 535. There are other great dealers on this forum as well, I just have personal experience with Guy.

Good luck with your search!

Good luck getting the guitar to Australia. I was thinking the best way to get it there would be to take it yourself on a boat voyage to "Down Under". Short of that, someone other than me will have good ideas.

As far as the Collings I35LC, it's a killer guitar. Never owned one because of the expense ($4000+), but I did play a friend of mine's cherry red I35LC and immediately fell in love with it. Perhaps the nicest (certainly one of the nicest) guitars I had ever played to that point in time.

Funny thing was, the owner did not like it very well and quickly sold it after only a short time owning it. Had I had the money I would have been interested, but it was out of my price range.

Take care.

Why don't you fly over next summer and pick it up? Bring Jeffery with you.

Bring me a Carlton Blue's jersey.

Collings suck

Not really at all.

You may have already been through this but,

Work out exchange rate, add freight, add gst. Plus I think there is a small customs charge. I might be wrong on that though, it may have been dropped.

Check Gumtree, and facebook gear for sale pages(even post wanted to buy on fb gear pages) to check what you can get one here for.

Generally its within a hundred dollars either way compared to OS.

Japan is a good source of 2nd hand Heritage and generally a little cheaper than the US after freight etc.

There was a H535 on Gumtree that had an asking price of $2500. To get a 2nd hand one from the states would have been similar or more.

It probably went for about 2100-2200. I offered 2000 flat and he asked for 2100.

The last H150 I sold was immaculate and went for about 300 less than you could get one from the States.

Heritages are here but you have to keep an eye out.

Other than that, just hit buy now on one that takes your fancy.

oh yeah, lets go next summer and grab one each. Your shout.

Apparently the customs duty still stands and is about 5%

Im in the middle of selling a 2nd hand Southern Belle Tele.

It originally cost $1700US

The cost to land it in Australia today at current currency conversion rate:

1700us to au = 2233

GST = 223

customs duty = 110

freight/post =230 (could have been cheaper but the customer wanted full insurance and wanted it in a case instead of taking the neck off and making it a shorter package) It couldve been more like $160 freight had he gone with that option.

Total $2796

The guitar is for sale for 1700 but will go for 1400au. To buy a second hand one under 1000 from OS would cost more once you added freight and customs duty(no gst applies under $1000)

You can get the seller to declare the price as under 1000 and avoid the gst. (tax evasion) and hope customs dont do a cross check(they do randomly. They know stuff). If they do and the declaration is falsely filled out you will be slugged up to a further $2500.

Personal experience, find one in Australia, its generally cheaper. Jackson Rare Guitars gave away all their new Heritage at below cost a few years ago and the used price for Heritage still reflects that over here. You could pick up a H137 brand new for $900 in the final stages of the cash grab. Second hand price now is about 1400

Buy OS if it is something rare or the specs you want can only be found on a guitar that is OS or buy OS when the dollar is at parity or better. (it will never happen again ;) )

Yeah, I got an H150 Deluxe from Jackson a few years back, but sold it 18 months ago. It went to a good home in Melbourne.

I still have - and love - my H535 which I bought 10 years ago from Vintage Guitars in Sydney.

I guess the best way to get what you want is to go to the US and bring it back. Or find someone who will do that for you.

Most Japanese stockists of 2nd hnd guitars inc heritage over a certain price freight free. I just got a couple of greco's sent over.

Lol!!! someone voted me down on my previous post! thats funny and a bit sad.

Maybe it was accidental and tbh I dont keep track of likes and dislikes.

I live in Australia, Ive bought a lot of guitars personally and in business from the US, Japan and Europe. Ive sold and shipped guitars to the US, Europe, NZ and where ever else. I sold and shipped a Knopfler strat to Demark. Who would thought it was cheaper for them to buy from Au than locally or from the US!!

If you can get free shipping you grab it as long as you arent paying a premium on the original price.

Im not a dealer, its now a hobby, Its not food on the table, its just for fun. Im not trying to cut out any of the "dealers" here.

Im just passing on my experiences to fellow Australians and New Zealanders.

If you are a dealer and have a problem with any of the above, well, screw you, grow up, find a market you can compete in. Thats biz 101.

Or, hope to snag a newb that hasnt researched. There are plenty of them.

Working in that industry I use to get customers come in to show me their latest import only to find they paid a little over what they couldve got it for locally and all their warranty is only valid in the country of purchase.

On the other hand, if you have a problem with Greco's and you gave me a mark down for that, I dont have a problem with that. It would just be a weird thing to do.

Anyway, fun rant, carry on :)

The mark down was accidental by me :-(

I meant to click on "quote" but slipped too far.

Couldn't backtrack either.

Anyhow, I did think your post was interesting.

I also sometimes get guitars from strange places.

A beautiful Ernie Ball Silhouette Special 2006 Anniversary which some guy had paid a deposit on but never collected.

My trusted 2004 H535 from a specialist left hander shop, though it's is a right handed one.

A 2006 H150 Deluxe from the Jacksons firesale, which I ended up selling.

A 1970s J200 replica Emperador which still plays beautifully and which I scored off a basker mate in 1981 in exchange for a jacket he liked...go figure.

And a friend who lives in Jakarta is bringing me a Gregg Bennett D5ce next November straight from the Samick factory.

Sorry about the "dislike". It wasn't intended. I'd remove it if I knew how to.

Time for dinner now on the East Coast (Coffs Coast). Tomorrow, open mike at the Amble Inn in Corindi. Woohoo!

Oh man, I was into it. I really enjoyed my rant ;)

Going jamming now. Pizza, beer, loud fender, real snare, real bass, old mates.

Joy of music back after a while of hearing it as noise.

Hanging 20stories off the side of a building lately, nerves probably a bit frayed without me realising.

Apologies to imagined enemies and made up douche bags.

Carry on ;)

There you go, someone deleted the dislike and for good measure I gave you a like on your last post. Am I getting good at this, or what?

Off to jamming too at the open mike. Jazzy set with bass, drums, sax and vocals. Perfect for the H535. Always a cool Sunday afternoon at the pub with music and a few ales.

Came home with an amp that was mine once before. Its a boomerang piece of gear.

A Fender Pro Reverb Pro Tube series. Terrible gain channel but wonderful clean channel, trem and reverb.

See you when I learn how to behave :D

Heritage changed their lacquer supplier last year and that ugly vinegar smell is no longer- FYI.
