khmr33 Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 So I thought I was buying a rather dull, slightly modded 1994 Heritage H150 that I intended to use as a workhorse guitar... Something I could mod the hell out of and it wouldn't matter how it looked. Seriously, the eBay photos weren't representative of the actual guitar at all. What I got instead was the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen in my life. After sending some pics to Heritage to get it identified, I learned it was actually a rather stock 2001 H-150CM Almond Sunburst. The problem was that the silkscreen of the serial number was damaged and made the letter seem like either an "R" or a very curly "K". I wasn't sure what it was supposed to look like, but Heritage sorted it out. No fault of the previous owner, he was the second so there's no telling what the original owner told him. Doesn't matter anyway because Heritage are super consistent and a five year spread isn't an issue. http://m.imgur.com/a/DNMEz I really tried to get the color right in the photos. If you tried to photograph it outside, it would just look like a cherry sunburst finish. It took me days of fiddling to get good pics. I still plan to mod it... I'm considering either swapping in my Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta Humbuckers or possibly going for something more boutique like ThroBaks. I'll probably still wire it Jimmy Page style, I like the flexibility. I'd love to hear from anyone with any experience with ThroBak or any other boutique pickup maker. Also, since I plan replacing the electronics, if you can tell me which pots and switch fit so I can order them before stripping the guitar down it will cut out a lot of downtime. Thanks and see you at the meetup next year. Keith
khmr33 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Thanks for that. I'm struggling a little bit on my phone here. Guess I should get Tapatalk. I should dig up the eBay photos so you guys can see what I thought I was buying

khmr33 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 So it's not bad really. I stared at those pics for weeks trying to decide how I felt about it. I had just missed an actual 1994 H150CM from Canada that had the classic Cherry Sunburst finish and I thought there was something wrong with the other top for it to look so off color wise. You can imagine my surprise when I opened the case and saw a completely different guitar.
khmr33 Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Some better shots of the grain... I was really surprised at how hard it is to photograph. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
khmr33 Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 So, can someone let me know on a 2001 H150 if I'm dealing with short or long shaft pots and if a short or long three way switch is more appropriate? When he was six, he believed that the moon overhead followed him... by nine he had deciphered the illusion. Trading magic for fact, no tradebacks. So this is what it's like to be an adult. If he only knew now, what he knew then...
Jim W Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 Is the neck pickup and ring changed? It seems a bit odd to have a Schaller with 2 adjustment screws, and a single? Ring color also looks a bit different between the 2. Cool to see another lefty on the board!
khmr33 Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 It's still the Schaller pickup, but I think the original pickup ring broke. There's little things hopefully I can improve by visiting the factory soon. I've made some changes that are deliberate but they're very particular improvements. I think the previous owner preferred a much lower action and I like to dig in a little more. SoundBottoms Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Being a lefty, I had my eyes on this one when it was up on eBay. Congrats! What is Jimmy Page wiring?
khmr33 Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 Being a lefty, I had my eyes on this one when it was up on eBay. Congrats! What is Jimmy Page wiring? Four push/pull pots wired to split both coils as well as phase and series/parallel. Along with the three way toggle, you end up with 21 different pickup configurations. It's a simplified version of how Jimmy Page's Les Paul #2 is set up. Since the Schallers are four conductor wire pickups, you can do this and keep them if you like them. I like my Seymour Duncans, so I put those in, but I still may save up for some ThroBaks. Definitely considering a Faber bridge and tailpiece as well.
