ironmike Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Anyone use this amp with an archtop? Looking to purchase one.
ironmike Posted September 15, 2016 Author Posted September 15, 2016 Well, that was informative, rather than wait I just bough onr6,should be here in San few days..
Spectrum13 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 If it sounds good it is! No experience with that amp but never saw anything negative about Rivera.
CJTopes Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I have a Rivera Chubster 40 combo, a Rake Reverb head and a Pubster 25 watt head but not a jazz Suprema. My experience with Rivera is that they are a great sounding amp but can take a little time to get them dialed in. (except for the Pubster 25, it's got less knobs to mess with!)
Gitfiddler Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 No personal experience with a Jazz Suprema, but a buddy of mine, who is a fine jazz player and instructor, has one. He owns a special order Suprema with a 15" speaker. He absolutely loves that amp!!
ironmike Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 I just bought the two channel rivera jazz suprema with a 15 inch eminence speaker. I am looking forward to its arrival next week..two weeks ago I bought a fender hot rod deluxe with the extention cabinet (sealed) and I put two 12 at7 tubes in v1 and v3, then I jumped two terminals on the midrange tone control to ground making it the same as an old fender twins' tone stack, then I cut resistor 110 out of the reverb loop .great amp now,it's an improved George benson model now,oh yeah,I installed two jenson c12k speakers in there too.one open cabinet one closed cab Lots of headroom for my archtops and the king of clean for my strat, it's basically a half of a twin reverb now..but the rivera has me pretty excited..can't hardly wait..
ironmike Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 Quite a rig, I put a jbl k series 16 inch in it..the speaker if came with wasn't factory,so I'm using this one..perfect..incredibly clean .great EQ. My archtops sing and my strats love it too
ironmike Posted September 26, 2016 Author Posted September 26, 2016 Amazing amplifier, was playing my old 336 though it last night, wow is all I can say,the amp is truly a highly refined design, superb in every way.

212Mavguy Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Much better to have something that is originally great instead of turd polishing, huh? Way to go!
ironmike Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 Yup,liked it so much I just bought a closed cabinet combo suprema with a 12 inch speaker..probly gonna sell a few amps from my collection,I think of have 2o or 22 now.the riveras are pricy but they are versatile workhorses.

ironmike Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 I got a chance to light that amp up with a 150 last night at a jam session, Phew! Hot stuff, bought it for jazz but it is a smoking rocker too.!
ironmike Posted October 6, 2016 Author Posted October 6, 2016 I just bought a weber neomag 15..not much like the jbl..didn't dig it at all,not nearly as rugged.it cropped out within the first hour...no more weber for me...I'll stick with my good old fashioned jbl k series,in don't mind the weight,I want sound....
212Mavguy Posted October 15, 2016 Posted October 15, 2016 JBL made two other 15's that you might like to keep an eye out for. One is the MI-15. other is G135-8. Both are designed to do both dirty and clean tones, paper dust caps and vented through the magnet in the back for cooling, they have more top end than a D-140. but not ice picky. They do efficiently deliver a clear, focused sound on just a few watts. I own both types, they are stellar speakers. The MI-15 is a 75 watt 15 inch cast aluminum framed ceramic magnet speaker with a 2 1/4" flattened wire VC that weighs little more than a 12 inch Celestion Vintage 30, half the weight of the similarly constructed 200 watt rated beefier 3" motor equipped g135. They go from 45-6000 in frequency response, they work for guitar, bass, or keys/synth. The MI-15's are hard to find, the G135 pretty commonly found on eBay for 75-125 bucks either type. It will be very, very difficult to find a new production 15 that can match what the G135 can do in particular. These speakers work well at bedroom volumes and then at LOUD they put out a thunderous roar with surprising clarity, the tones pretty much stay like you set the controls for quieter operation as you start pumping more watts through them...
