jessedevine Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Hi all!I'm new to the Heritage Owner's Club, and i must say, i absolutely love this site.Anyways, i took a gamble, and bought an old 1988 Heritage H-140 guitar, because i [seemingly] was getting a great deal on it.The guitar cost me just over $900 Got it from a guitar shop, & it was listed as excellent condition. Upon getting it home, and in some better lighting, i noticed some very concerning lines on the headstock...Long story short, i took it to a local guitar luthier, who said it absolutely was a past headstock break/repair/refinish.He said it's not necessarily a deal-breaker on the guitar, especially if it plays well (which i'm still in the process of determining) But the biggest issue [obviously] is that the guitar was said to be in Excellent condition... and a past headstock break is not EXCELLENT condition. Anyways, i'm contemplating a couple options, and was hoping to have the wonderful Heritage Owner's Club Community's help: - Return the guitar for a full refund - Keep the guitar and ask for a partial refund based on the condition. If you think i should keep the guitar for a partial refund, could you provide some opinions on what you think i should ask for a partial refund?Again, i purchased it for just over $900 Thank you all so much in advance. - Jesse
PunkKitty Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 That looks like a H-140P to me. Check the label under the control panel to be sure. Considering that the guitar was misrepresented, I would return it for a full refund.

Could still be a GREAT player, if that's of interest. What it's worth is up to you.

Full disclosure is good selling etiquette and you will find the folks on here to be that way. If you bought it through Ebay you have full buyer protection. They will refund your money. I went through this once with a less than honest seller. Good luck.

So i just checked under the control panel and it says it's a Heritage H-140 M However, i'm pretty oblivious to what the different letters represent. What's the difference between the H-140 M & H-140 P ? Are there specific advantages/disadvantages?
jessedevine Posted September 26, 2016 Author Posted September 26, 2016 Here's a photo of the control panel interior

jessedevine Posted September 26, 2016 Author Posted September 26, 2016 REFUND!!!!! Hey Brentrocks! How much do you think a H-140 M would be worth if it was indeed in Excellent condition?
Spectrum13 Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Get your money back and buy like this... available on this site.
jessedevine Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Get your money back and buy like this... available on this site. Hey! I'm definitely open to a guitar like this. How much is this one going for? Can you provide a direct link to the sale-page? Thanks, - Jesse
bobmeyrick Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 Hey! I'm definitely open to a guitar like this. How much is this one going for? Can you provide a direct link to the sale-page? Thanks, - Jesse That's my H150P, and it's not for sale! I'm not sure how Spectrum13 got the idea it was. The 150P is a little thinner than a regular 150, and I changed the Schaller pickups for a set of Seymour Duncan P-Rails, while the Schaller bridge and tailpiece were exchanged for a Nashville set.
Spectrum13 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 My bad sorry... i was showing Jesse one of the better 150 P's and that porn shot with P rails on a goldtop was over the top. You can post my black 147 but he might wish to check our for sale section or post a "want to buy" when he gets his $$$.

I have a 140 as well, which is a little smaller all round than a 150. The 140 is slightly thinner than the 150P, which makes it even lighter - the 140 weighs 7.5 lbs. compared to 9 lbs. for the 150P and 9.75 lbs. for my 150CM VSB. That's a significant difference!
HANGAR18 Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 I'd ask the seller to choose between a refund of $400 to keep the guitar or a full refund and then you return the guitar to the seller.
skydog Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I can understand someone buying a guitar online and then discovering a neck break, but in person?
HANGAR18 Posted October 1, 2016 Posted October 1, 2016 I can understand someone buying a guitar online and then discovering a neck break, but in person? I missed that part. Hopefully the store has a good return policy. But even if it cannot be returned, and regardless of how much was paid for it, it will still probably play just fine and that is the whole point of getting it in the first place.
jessedevine Posted October 1, 2016 Author Posted October 1, 2016 I can understand someone buying a guitar online and then discovering a neck break, but in person? Hey guys, I did purchase it online, on Reverb So I know it is indeed eligible for a return, since the guitar has been misrepresented. However, the main thing I'm determining is how good the guitar plays. It has a great feel to it, but the G string goes out of tune extremely easily. Anyone else have that issue with your Heritage Les Paul style models?
