Tuners finish on my Heritage GM ?

Hello,

I have to change my old tuners on my Heritage Gary Moore. I try to find the specs of the model to know what is the finish but found nothing...

I have a question regarding the finish of them : shoudl I buy "Chrome" or "Nickel" grover 102 ?

When I put the tuners of the Heritage cloth to one of my other guitar with Chrome tuners, the Heritage tuners got a slight gold reflect....

But they are 26 years old, and I'm not sure of the original finish... So it may be Nickel, or not ....

I asked Heritage and they answered me : we put both...Thanks a lot...

Your help is welcome ;-).

Thanks a lot.

Pierre

With what you are describing. My guess is nickel.

Being 26 years old it will be hard to get a definite answer.

Choose what you like.

The pic makes the tuning machines look very shiny (to me). I would have to believe that if they are 26 years old, the originals would have been chrome. Nickel would most likely have tarnish on them.

The other hardware on the guitar is original and it is Chrome, so the mix with Nickel tuners is weird...

Will compare them again with a natural light, not a white or yellow one.

Thanks a lot for your help ;-)

I agree those definitely look like chrome to me. But if that was my guitar I would change the hardware to nickel. Just my opinion but I think chrome looks cheap & fake, nickel looks less shiny & more classy.

Again just my .02

what's wrong with the tuners? Are they not working anymore, or did you want to go with locking ones?

Nickel seems to be the standard tuner finish for Heritage when they were using grover tuners.

If given the choice my preference is Nickel. When I bought tuners for an H170 that Heritage built for me, I had to import the tuners just for that guitar, Schaller Da Vinci tuners in nickel. There weren't any in the USA in the nickel finish. The dealer ordered 2 sets, 1 set for me and another set to keep in stock. I really wanted to try the Ruthenium finished tuners but that would have meant Ruthenium bridge and Ruthenium stop tail. I didn't like their bridge.

Hello, the issue is that 3 of them didn't stay tuned. I just want to replace them with the same 102 rotomatics model, no locking ones because I don't want to modify anything on my guitar, no holes or anything.

I look at the finish yesterday at natural light with a chrome one and there is a "gold" reflect, it is not chrome, I'm 99% sure now...

If you tell me that it was the standard tuner finish when they were using grover, no hesitation !

Thanks a lot.

You might want to go for the Grovers with the higher tuning ratio. I think they now have 14:1 ratio tuners. I have a set of them on my 1998 H535, which needed new tuners due to corrosion/age. I think that guitar was stored in a damp/dank basement for many years. It still has a bit of basement funk on it.
