vanceen Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I've got a very nice Golden Eagle, but lately I have really been enjoying the larger nut widths on some of my flat top acoustics. I would love to find something like the GE with a 1 3/4" or even a 1 13/16 nut. I know the Heritage Johnny Smith was 1 3/4", but are there any other Heritage archtops out there with nuts wider than 1 11/16"? I find that it makes "crowded" chords much easier to play cleanly.
Kuz Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 My Florintine Cutawy Golden Eagle is 1 3/4" and I love the extra nut width! My 555 is also 1 3/4" nut width.
vanceen Posted January 5, 2017 Author Posted January 5, 2017 Thanks, Kuz. Were those custom models or do they come stock with wider nuts?
Gianluca Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 My H535 is a custom order, 1.75" nut width, great fretboard very comfortable(to me)
pressure Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 Both my Johnny Smiths and my Millie are 1 3/4". This is the first time I measured them, usually I just play them.
Artpulis Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 I had a 575 made with a 1.75 neck and I love it. That kind of customization cost me very little extra which is a major reason I went with Heritage.
Gitfiddler Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 My H525 Custom has a 1.75" nut width. That's another reason it tends to be played more than my other Heritages. However, I adjust fairly quickly after a few minutes of playing other gits with slightly narrow nut widths.
Kuz Posted January 7, 2017 Posted January 7, 2017 My 555 I custom ordered with the wider nut, the Golden Eagle I bought from Wolfe guitars and he spec'd it with a wider nut. So I just got lucky with that the GE had a wider nut, but I would have bought it with a 1 11/16" nut. I really don't notice that much a difference other than you don't fall off the fretboard with the E strings, and like you stated it is a little easier to chord up by the nut.
