Greetings HOC folks

First posting in awhile and it is a question. Are the shafts on the volume and tone pots on the H 150 the long type similar to LP's made in the late 50's. Thanks for any expert knowledge.

Short shafts will work, but I'm not sure if you will be able to match the knurling that holds the top hat knobs in place.

If you plan on replacing with standard CTS pots or something nicer like RS Guitarworks or ThroBak harnesses then you won't have any choice but to replace the top hat knobs as well... either a 3rd party with American knurling or actual Gibson factory parts.

My 2001 H150 had the funny Mexican pots, and I don't if they've stopped using those since or not.

When he was six, he believed that the moon overhead followed him... by nine he had deciphered the illusion. Trading magic for fact, no tradebacks. So this is what it's like to be an adult. If he only knew now, what he knew then...

RS Uses CTS pots... just made to their specs. Last time I had a Heritage built 2013 they used CTS pots as well but they did not have a taper I was comfortable with so I replaced with RS Cts. The same knobs fit on all the pots.

Good luck on you upgrade.

So when did they switch from the Mexican pots to CTS? That's the important bit of info, depending on OP's model year.

khmr33,

My 2006 150, 2007 137 and 2008 Millie came with Mexican pots so I replaced them. RS drop ship directly to Kalamazoo for my 2009 Prospect and 2011 H575 builds. By 2013 they were using cts with my 147, so some time from 2008- to 2013. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Right, so most 2008 or before likely have the Mexican pots. If OP's model year is before then and he does have the Mexican pots, then when he replaces them with any imperial CTS or equivalent like RS Guitarworks then he will also have to replace his knobs.

If the guitar is newer, it may not be an issue.

All of my post-fire 2008 Heritages all had CTS pots.

I had to replace a volume control in my 2003 H157. I put in a CTS pot and had no issue with the knob fitting. I think that most issues are with oriental builds from Korea, China and Indonesia, etc having a different size shaft vs US pots.

I did a complete re-wire of my 2006 H-150 w/ Lollar P-90s this past year. Very happy with the results. I assume it had the Mexican pots (no name stamped on them) and the original knobs fit fine as long as the knurling on the new Emerson Pro CTS pots I used were sharp/well defined, which a few were not. I used item #0204, the short shaft. Side note: these have a very slow roll off compared to the CTS pots that came in my 2016 H-150.
