jmprobert Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Hey everybody! I've been a silent lurker on the forum for a few months now reading, learning, and watching but now I'm a full-fledged member! Here's my '87 535 and looks like ASB but I'll take whatever y'all think it is. Shaller pups. The seller said everything was original but, I see some electrical tape in the wiring around the pots and the neck pickup cavity looks less than pristine.. Any thoughts? tbonesullivan Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 did you get any pictures of the backs of the pickups or other wiring? That does not really look like a stock neck pickup route.
jmprobert Posted February 10, 2017 Author Posted February 10, 2017 Here are the pickup backs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TalismanRich Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 The 535 wasn't introduced until 1987, so you have on of the earliest ones. They may have been doing a lot more hand routing at the time, so it's possible that it was that way from the factory. The only reason to do additional routing would be to deepen it for long leg pickups. Looking at the bottom, it doesn't appear to be significantly deeper, and you would only need to do the outer areas, not the middle. For an 87, it looks to be in great shape.
Gitfiddler Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Beautiful 'vintage' H535!! Your photographic skills are killer too! Welcome to the HOC.
skydog52 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Congratulations and welcome to the Club! You scored a vintage one in Great shape.
rjstauber Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I really like the looks of that one, very nice! I like the flamed maple.Do you know if this one came without the chrome pick-up covers? My H-535 from 1998 has the same hardware by Schaller, which I do like.
jmprobert Posted February 12, 2017 Author Posted February 12, 2017 I'm not sure what the original pickup covers were, unfortunately. Wish I had them though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
schundog Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Congratulations, and welcome! 535s are the Schiznit.
houndhome Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Nice guitar, congratulations.I wonder if the colour is almond sunburst, from the photos it looks rather like my H555 in that colour.
bolero Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 that is a really nice 535! and an early one, to boot!! I really like the figuring on the fretboard too congrats!
jmprobert Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 Anybody seen a case that just says "Heritage" and an inside label that looks like this? The guitar looks great, but I guess I'm just real nervous given that these aren't a small investment and these don't look like others I've seen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bolero Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I wouldn't worry too much, those look legit to me case were made by TKL, easy to get a new one if it bothers you. They are good cases, I like them
TalismanRich Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 My 87 H140 doesn't even have printing on the case, and the tag inside the control cover is the same circle as yours. There's nothing that I see on that guitar that doesn't say it's a genuine Heritage.
kidsmoke Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 Welcome to the fray. Beautiful guitar! I agree with those that have said it all looks legit. I think perhaps in '87, things were a little more "seat of the pants" than they are now. Your's presents just like mine did when I bought several years ago now, with the uncovered humbuckers... and this is the original harness after I pulled it out So I wouldn't worry. Play the f*ckin' thing......
schundog Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I agree with Rich; those are the labels they used in the earlier years.
jmprobert Posted February 18, 2017 Author Posted February 18, 2017 Thanks for all of the info guys - I've been playing it a lot Just wanted to make sure I actually got what I paid for. Beautiful guitar! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
