DetroitBlues Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Had a few used choices.. two stood out.. Blackstar 5R combo for $210 Orange Crush 35R for $170 Bought the Orange. No tubes and all sorts of tones/features to cover his classic rock to modern heavy rock tones. Did I do good or should I look for something else?
ElNumero Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 Congrats, looks to me like you did an awesome job!
PunkKitty Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 The Orange Crush is a very good starter amp. You did well.
DetroitBlues Posted March 5, 2017 Author Posted March 5, 2017 Sure beats the Peavey Rage158 I started with! Or my Gorilla 20
davesultra Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 Sure beats the Peavey Rage158 I started with! Don't "diss" the Rage!!
kennyv4 Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 If your son likes the sound then it's a winner, congratulations.
DetroitBlues Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 Did he have the chance to try it? No, his birthday isn't until April, so he won't be able to. I bought his first guitar and amp second hand. I'd rather have him use something used than new so if he stops playing, it won't be hard to recoup the money sunk into the guitars.
DetroitBlues Posted March 6, 2017 Author Posted March 6, 2017 Into one of your x-cabs. Its a bit cheaper than the Orange...
kennyv4 Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Buying used makes sense to me if your not sure he will stick with it. Having said that I hope that you like the sound of the amp you bought.
DetroitBlues Posted March 8, 2017 Author Posted March 8, 2017 Buying used makes sense to me if your not sure he will stick with it. Having said that I hope that you like the sound of the amp you bought. My total investment on his musical adventures is less than $300 and I'll be able to recoup all those costs if necessary.
