LittleLeroy Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Being new to the Heritage market, I'd like to ask about the value of this. 1997 H-535. Seller asks $2k, shipped.
ElNumero Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Personally, $2k is pretty high. 535's and other Heritages have been going up on the used market. About 10 years ago you could buy 150's and 535's used all day long for around $1200-$1400. Now its more like $1600-$1800. I would not pay more than $1600 for a 20 year old 535. Ideally, around $1400. in 1997 the buyer would have only paid about $1000 for that guitar.
brentrocks Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 $2000. No way You're looking at a pickup, pot, cap upgrade. I wouldn't go higher than $1400

LittleLeroy Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 Yikes!! Thanks for the reality check! I was thinking I'd offer $1750... she's a looker. Many late 90s available, but the lowest I've seen is $1650.
brentrocks Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I would also upgrade the bridge and tailpiece. Yes. Tone pros
LittleLeroy Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 You guys have just about convinced me to only look for guitars that already have the TPs and SDs! All the sellers with older guitars are looking at the gorgeous wood and finish and thinking, "well, I'm gonna get top dollar for this beauty!" They will tell me it doesn't need anything replaced. And were I to offer $1400 they'll get PO'd. But check this out: Sold for $1700 yesterday https://reverb.com/item/4548195-heritage-h-535-1996-natural
Polo Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Hey Leroy, Have you considered posting a WTB here in the Heritage Guitars For Sale section? If you were to be very specific about what your looking for I feel that is likely that someone here might have what your looking for. It could be a whole lot less risky than dealing the unknown public at large......as you've already experienced. Just a suggestion.....as always....best of luck on your Heritage journey!

Yes, I have posted a WTB with *very* specific criteria.... crickets.... But I can try again with my modified *very* specific criteria. Certainly worth a try. But NOTE: I was dealing with a Heritage Dealer, which I would not have considered the unknown public, though I do take your point. Thanks!
ironmike Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 That schaller bridge and tailpiece is made better than the tone pro, cost more too, good stuff.pickups are also schaller ,good stuff, maybe just some cases 500k Pots an DC some oil caps..that thing should sing as it is.if it'd all original 1600 to 1700 is fair, it looks all original.

ironmike Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 btw, that schaller bridge is better than the gibson tp6,its got more aluminum in the cast metal and more copper too, also, the fine tuners are out of the way, unlike the gibson..stick with it!
schundog Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I'll let you know once she arrives. I sincerely hope it works out for you, Little Leroy; I for one really can't stand people who are dishonest in their dealings with others....

LittleLeroy Posted April 26, 2017 Author Posted April 26, 2017 OK People!! I'll will give a $100 finder's fee to anyone who can point me to a *gorgeous* (as nice as the one in this post) 535, that I end up BUYING for $1400. Kuz Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 You have gotten a lot of responses and maybe you can get a 535 for $1400. But unless the seller absolutely NEEDS to sell to score his next fix, you aren't going to get a $1400 535 in excellent mint condition. Why let your dream guitar get away for only $300 more. I think around $1750 for good/excellent condition and $1850-2000 for mint condition is more realistic.

I'm willing to put *my* money where *their* mouths are. Let's see what they come up with. Maybe there'll be one for each of us and monabassanova, too.
Gtwibs Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Just an FYI, that reverb listing didn't necessarily sell for that price. I've listed guitars on reverb and taken lower offers, but the price that shows up on the SOLD page is the original price I listed it for, and not necessarily what I got. Also, as others have said, you can certainly find the occasional 535 similar to the one you posted for $13-1400, but it's not exactly easy these days.

That said, I'll offer you the same $100 finders fee deal. Anytime. IMNTBHO the days of the $1400 beauty are over, daddy. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong. ;-)

Call it a side bet, if you will. Not to be taking away from the task at hand which is finding you a nice 535
