Given your track record with long time CONTRIBUTING members on this forum, you HAVE NO PLACE TO JUDGE!!!

well no one seems forthright in posting how that all ended up

was the guitar in question a #2?

if so, I can't say I blame him for being upset about the deal. hopefully it was resolved for all parties involved

I asked the seller to take a natural light pic. I thought he sent me a pic of a different guitar! The left pic is from the website. The right side is from his phone in the shop. He says the difference is just the lighting. I think the photog "enhanced" the photo on the left to make it warmer and more "lemony". The question is:which guitar would I see when I open the case?

wow that is nice!

I would get a pic taken outside in natural daylight?

.that room does appear very dark ( look in the background )

also what finish is that? ASB? OSB? it will be printed on the label, usually

You think the difference in tint is just the lighting?

Yes.... It will look different depending on the lighting.

Sure, it will look different. But Not That Different! That is a whole 'nother color. I think the photog "fluffed" it up. And I would bet if I bought it I would find the finish does not have all that golden honey-lemon in the burst that the pic has.

Here look at this. This is 3 pics of my Amber. Left is on my wall with a flash; Center is the pic CME had on the Reverb listing; Right is on my wall with natural light.

The flash changed the tint, but that is not the "actual" color of the guitar. The CME pic has been manipulated and also is not the color of the guitar. When she arrived and I popped the case I saw the color in the pic on the right. I was not pleasantly surprised and almost returned it. Very glad I gave her a chance...

My point is this "touching up" is just another dishonesty people can and do use to sell a guitar. It's a serious disadvantage for anyone who lives in a place where you can't walk into a store and see the guitar you're buying.

There's no doubt that one can edit a photo with filters etc to augment the image. Perhaps intending to deceive. Perhaps trying to showcase. REGARDLESS of the integrity of the seller, I would never take the color I see on the screen as gospel....as we all know by now, our monitors and phones are susceptible to variation relative to true color.

the following are all taken by me, no filters, various settings, and none are what I see when I'm actually lookin' at it.

That would depend on where you open it, and the light in the room or outdoors. Bursts like ASB will show more red in bright light.

Many people on here have taken photos of their own guitars to show how different they look in different lighting. To me its one of the beautiful parts of a Heritage. The depth of the colors mixed in with the high quality wood packages is what helps set Heritage apart from the competition. No two look alike, especially in different lighting. The richness is undeniable as is the history of the company itself.

Yes you can find motivated sellers at $1400 or less. Most sites are asking higher prices because they are also paying listing fees for every guitar they sell. They want to minimize the loss they may take on their bottom line.

Your best bet is to find a motivated seller here.

Now, here's my two cents on the hardware. There is nothing wrong with Schaller. It just looks odd in comparison to what we are used to seeing.

Some of us here are a bit more cork-sniffing about their pickups, electronics, hardware, etc. I'll admit, I'm bit of one myself. So there are some here that would argue that Schaller and Tonepros are junk and you should upgrade to Callahan or some other high end boutique hardware.

Then we get to pickups. The original Schaller was just fine, but some wanted a different spec, so Heritage created the HRW pickups (no longer available). Some here choose to use Throbak or other high end, expensive pickups because they can hear the difference.

Buy a used H-535. Upgrade it if you want or try it as is and decide for yourself. I personally will not judge you for keeping it as is or upgrade/altering its appearance. It's your guitar, do what you will.

When its all said and done, it will be great! Bring it to PSP and play the hell out of it with the rest of us this summer.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics and explanation. I think the one I'm looking at is more brown and less yellow than yours.

Man, I seriously dig that top. And it is BONE stock, tells me it's probably been dabbled with, and not beaten on, in its lifetime. If you can get it at a price you feel good about, I say go.

I've said it before, I see harness's and p'ups more like a 307 in a 70 chevy, leave it, enjoy it, all good. Or, swap in a big block and run it for pinks. Either is a totally defensible approach.

Leroy did you ever ask the guy what the finish is?

part of the label appears to indicate ALSB...maybe google "ALSB Heritage 535" if you need more reference?
