DetroitBlues Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 What happens with a speaker cabinet that has an output to another cabinet? In this case, I have a 2x12 120watt, 16 ohm cabinet with an output to another cabinet. Does this harm the amp? Lower it from 16 to 8? Or does it do nothing but add more speakers?
Millennium Maestro Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 no harm just make sure the load matches at the head, there is a direct link between the in and send jack so it is like having 2 speaker cords coming from the amp feeding 2 cabinets. (2) 16ohm cabs = 8 ohm load at the amp
CJTopes Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Is the second cab also 16 ohm? If it is 16 and you daisy chain the two together then that will give you 8 ohms.
mars_hall Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 Total Impedance of the 2 cabinet chain is R1R2/(R1+R2) where Rx is the impedance of each cabinet
tulk1 Posted August 14, 2017 Posted August 14, 2017 If it's your Quilter you're worried about, don't. It'll accept any match or mismatch as long as you don't go as low as 2ohms. One speaker might sound louder, but no harm. And Mark, you are very mathy today.
