joshkava Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Hello, I have found two Heritage LP type models for sale online. The H170 is from the late 80s and the H150 is from the late 90's. I usually dislike buying guitars online because I can't feel the neck in my hands but I'm intrigued by the H150 listing because it says that it has a thin, 1960s-style LP neck, which is a shape that I love! The H170 listing says that the neck is 'thinner' than the H150 neck. I just wanted to know if anyone out there has played both and could tell me how they compare to each other and to the 1960 style LP neck, as far as feel. (The same neck on the Les Paul Classic models from the 90s). Thanks!
TalismanRich Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 Its really not possible to say for sure what the neck is like based on the model. Heritage necks are hand rolled and will vary somewhat, plus they were known to custom roll necks based on customer requests. That said, my mid 80s H140 has a slightly more substantial neck than my 2003 H157. Neither is the proverbial baseball bat. Both have a very comfortable profile, which I find more important than just thickness.
DetroitBlues Posted October 25, 2017 Posted October 25, 2017 The necks were all shaped by feel. In my experience, the 80's Heritages were thin, d shape guitars. The 90's were a bit more rounded. Hard, but not impossible to find thick necks.
rwinking Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 My 80s 170 has a smaller neck than my late 90s 150. Don’t get me wrong, I love my 150 but there is something really cool about an old 170.
