Doug Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 My friend has an old Gibson Mercury amp from I believe 1964. It has a speaker cab that it sits on with 15" and 10" speakers. We got together and were playing a little bit and he touched the fretboard of my guitar, showing me a chord... and ZAP he got shocked pretty good. Looking at the amp it doesn't have a ground prong on the plug. He said that isn't the first time it has happened to him and stopped using it. Does anybody know how to remedy this situation? Probably a stupid question, but I'm the guy that always asks stupid questions.
Steiner Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 He got poked for completing the circuit. Get a new power cord installed with a proper ground.
Kuz Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 Ground plug.... for the love of all that is good.... Ground plug!!!
bolero Posted January 3, 2018 Posted January 3, 2018 yeah get a 3 prong ground plug installed ASAP Keith Relf of The Yardbirds died from something similar, I believe, in his home studio ah, here is an article: http://ultimateclassicrock.com/yardbirds-keith-relf-death/ RIP
TalismanRich Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Any competent amp tech can install that 3 wire ground plug. I had it done to my 54 National. So what if its not original, it SAFE!
Doug Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Yes, that would be the first place I would start. Even a stooge like me could put on a new power cord. Didn't know it was potentially deadly ... shocking!
