I consulted the Oracle of Kalamazoo...

and he advised me to make a move on what turned out to be a VERY good deal for an H150 in Chicagoland. BTW, the oracle is Brent. I needed a little advice from the Wizard to make sure my instincts were correct. It turns out the gentleman who sold this guitar went over budget on a SWEET PRS thats going to sit under his tree and needed to liquidate fast.

So, without further adu.. my new Almondburst H150CM

Its got a schaller in the neck, and a SD Jazz bridge pickup I didn't get a chance to photo the back which is a little chopped up with some finish wear and buckle rash. also a good couple of dings at the head stock but it plays good and sounded good.

I took those photos at a microbrewery after the pickup. This guitar was over an hour away but close to where I grew up so I was able to hook up with the guy that was the best man at my wedding for a celebration beer! The lighting wasn't very good in terms of the ammt of light but it did have a spot right on the top!

I met up at Rock Bottom. ALMOST not a microbrewery right? But had a good pale ale and some good conversation. What was really cool was one of the guys that worked there came up while I was showing my friends my new guitar and said, "cool, one of those great guitars from Kalamazoo!" He knew exactly what I had and commented on what a good looking axe it was. the word is out there on these babies!

Congrats on what appears to be a worthy score, Mike!  I dig the anecdote of the whole trip.  I love guitars that start their own histories the first day!  I'm always jealous of acquisition, but I'm saving for an amp.  Gotta be patient....  File a report of that stick at speed, soon, will ya?

It's beautiful Mike.

Congrats, Mike - nice looking guitar.  And yeh, cool story to go along with it.  You skipped the part about spilling the microbrew on it to break it in right for your pub-crawl gigs   8)   Looking forward to your first tone/gig report and what you think of the pickups.  What's the weight on this one?

Okay, one item to scratch from your Santa list...  you musta been a very good boy this year.

Jim,

That would be a good time! I would love to bring out the 535 and my gold 150 with the Prails, and this new axe. I am going to try and set it up as good as I can without taking it out to Steve for a true set up just yet. I want to see how I like it first before putting more money into it.

Very nice top! Congratulations!

good question on the weight. I actually was looking for a heavy one and I don't think this is it. I would have to guess around 9lbs. If feels lighter than Bird's cherry burst which I was told was between 9 and 10 lbs. Who knows, abscense leaves a heavy heart which may be weighing down my memories of old cherry  :'(

Mike!  You let that cherry burst go?  I wish I'd known that!  How'd I miss that one???

Don't worry. It stayed in the family. I traded it to High Flying Bird for his H535 Vintage . I had 2 H150s and he had 2 535s and so the deal was made. But my Gold H150 is sort of tricked out with those Prails and I wanted a normal H150 if you get my meaning.

Ooops.... My bad.  Brain fart.  I knew that; Bird had sent me some righteous pics of it right after he took delivery!

I played that 150 exclusively until Sunday night.  I am back to the gold 535 now.  Not a bad place to be guitar wise.

Have any of you noticed how hard the finish is on 150s?  Amazing.

No man, not bad at all. I love that 535. Its deffinately my #1 guitar. Isn't that great? It was a closet queen for you and now its getting the love it so ritchly deserved? And Cherry really didn't get the playing time she deserved either.

I don't get what you mean by hard finish though on the 150s. Do you mean the laquer?

Mike,

I know what you mean about having a p-90 sounding 150 and then needing a another normal 150 with humbuckers.

Looks like a great top. This 150 needs to make it to the PPII jam this summer!!!

Hell yeah. I wouldn't miss it for the world.. and all my heritage guitars are coming with me!

I wasn't sure we were going to be able to pull off another pilgrimage next year.

We will have to ask the ORACLE!!!!

I am willing to contribute (as I sure everyone else that attend would) a donation for the food/soda/beer so money should not be an issue knowing this generous crowd.

Now if we could only find a place to jam after the tour, say a barn not to far out of town.... hmm....

I have a feeling attendance will be up for round 2.  we may have to seek other options....the barn was pretty much to capacity w/ the crowd we had this year.

Maybe someplace AIR CONDITIONED ;D
