Joseph Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Dear Sir or Madam, I have recently bought and imported a Heritage 535 with HRW pickups guitar here to the uk and find that one of the POTS is always on full no matter what position I turn it to. In order to fix the problem it would be advantageous if I had the original or copy of the original circuit wiring diagram if you have such a thing. Below is the description of the guitar that I bought and the number that is on the back of the headstock. What are the component values etc. regards Joseph

bobmeyrick Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 5 hours ago, bolero said: aren't they all 500k vol & tone pots? Those would be the optimum values for humbuckers, but here's the thing. I recently decided the put the original pickups (Schallers) back into my H150 Special, taking out the P-Rails with a view to putting them into another guitar. While I had the cover off I checked the pots and found the volume pots were 250k and the tone pots were 100k! A quick visit to my local supplier of guitar-related goodies (Hot Rox UK), a set of CTS 500k pots and some soldering later, and the Special was sounding better than I remembered it with the Schallers. I went with '50s style wiring. Interestingly, in the Doug and Pat Show Pickup Shootout #2, they found the same thing... My 150 Special is from 1999, but I have a 535 with HRWs from 2007 which sounds great, so I assume they changed to 500k pots at some point in the 2000s. My advice to Joseph would be to take the guitar to a reputable luthier and get them to sort it out. I changed the pickups and wiring harness on a Gibson 335 and that's something I won't be doing again in a hurry. Hey Joseph, whereabouts are you in the UK?
tulk1 Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 If this is a 535 w/HRW's, then it's from the era of the 'zoo putting in what they had on hand. It's known they'd run out of stock and just use what was lying around. Not uncommon for 'bucker equipped guitars to have single coil value pots. Should be 500k.
buzzy Posted March 3, 2018 Posted March 3, 2018 I had the same thought the one and only time that I plugged in a Heritage with the VIP (or DVIP?) type wiring: "hey, this thing ain't working - the pot doesn't affect the volume" i still don't know how they work so I bet I'd have deja vu if I ran across another. And, I don't know if the one that I tried was working correctly. Joesph, are there any mini toggles or push/pull pots?
kidsmoke Posted March 5, 2018 Posted March 5, 2018 My 2002 H-535 (by Roman) came with 250k pots and Duncan Blackbacks. Changed it out for CTS 500k 50's style. Really wasn't that tough. The the entire harness soldered on the bench, take one out put one in. Here's the old one for reference for the OP
