Price for 157?

Hey guys

I am considering putting my lefty H157 on the bay.  Any ideas of a good asking price.  1996 black, great condition with OHSC.  Prices seem to change and I just want a good solid price.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd start with 950-

My logic here is the H-150's tend to start around 800 and, well actually a 157 is worth a lot more than 150 as far as the extras they put on it, but 950 keeps it under the psychological 1K boundary.

Of course, the best thing to hope for is to create a bidding war, so make sure you advertise "No Reserve"

You COULD go the reserve route, but since it is a lefty, your potential buyer pool is more shallow, and the reserve could scare people off.

You could set it at max which I would say 1275 as a Buy Now.

And lastly, if you feel 1275 is too low, set it up as a Buy Now or Best Offer at 1450.  Don't forget to state "Very Rare Item"*

Another thing to keep in consideration is shipping/handling which you want to keep down to a minimum as not to give off the impression you are trying to pocket some extra cash  (which so many people tend to do).

*I would  put in the ad (no matter what option you choose) "rare" since it is a lefty, no lying. It is a rare guitar as far as the number of black H-157s produced each year vs the actual number of lefties out of that number.

Hell, I have even seen folks put in ads for lefty guitars (even non Strats) stating "Righties, don't feel left out, try stringing it righthanded for a unique look!!!" Although. that is kinda cheesy.

Good luck!!!

Thanks

Yeah, I never try and abuse someone with shipping.  I typically charge $35 since that seems to be what is usually costs to ship.

UPS usually charges me at least $50 to ship. I once shipped a guitar to California (I'm in Florida), and they charged me $100!

Uh, wow!!  :- That's messed up. Ground shipping for 25lbs from FL to CA should be in the $30 - $35 range. Did you smoke a ciggy after you shipped that one?  ;)

The UPS Store prices are greatly inflated.

Don't I know it--though they always tell me that their prices are identical. The nearest UPS store is just a few miles away, but the UPS depot is about 30. They charge about $20 for a freakin' box, then another $15 or so for a signature delivery, which they say is mandatory on any shipment over $300. Add up delivery charges & insurance, and the cost increases dramatically.

I should have, since I got royally f*&$%d!

The size of the box is important too, not just the weight. They have some limits on length and total girth (don't even think it) and will add a significant up charge.

Well, I was playing the 157 last night and dammit, I cannot sell the thing.  It plays and sounds great.  Besides my guitar playing buddies told me they would kill me for being stupid and selling the guitar.

Yeah, I think fedex charges more for the bigger boxes.  I usually go to my local guitar shops and get boxes from them.  Someone online, (can't remember the name) sells guitar boxes in sets of 5.  A good box and packing is so so important.

If I had back every instrument I regretted ever selling, well, I'd have pretty much everything back.  I'm starting to think it's just not worth it to get rid of any instrument, ever.

I think you're thinking of the Uline Guitar Box.  I just go to the local pack and ship (not the UPS or Fed Ex stores!) and they build a custom box for me for $8.  The cardboard is twice as heavy as any box I've ever received a guitar in, the seams are all secured with glue and those monster industrial staples and I get to choose either end loading or side loading.
