rwinking Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 This looks a lot like an H-170 except for the extra knob and of course the headstock: https://www.themusiczoo.com/products/gibson-custom-shop-micro-kessel-prototype-iced-tea?goal=0_63363c100e-d6519bdefb-141120781&mc_cid=d6519bdefb&mc_eid=7ef7c91248
Spectrum13 Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 It does. Just multiply the cost of a 170 by three as it is a Gibson.
rwinking Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 I guess that extra tone knob would justify the higher cost.
Gitfiddler Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 That's a one-off "Kessel" prototype, but is obviously a take-off of the Gibson Johnny A. Signature (stoptail) model. Johnny A. paid tribute to Barney Kessel with his own updated thinline, but made several other unique design elements. Gibson eventually released a similar model called the Johnny A. "Spruce Top"...not a Kessel.
y2kc Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 I saw Barney Kessel here in Chicago when I was around 17 0r 18 years old. He played at the Jazz Showcase. I talked with him and Herb Ellis after the show and did not understand anything they were saying. They were in another world and I was a kid from the suburbs. This Gibson is a nice looking version of a familiar design but give me a H-170 any day. y2kc
