mars_hall Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Has anyone in the collective here seen the inlay process on Parsons? They have some excellent pegheads that look like they would have taken some time to execute. Truth is, I'm thinking about inlaying a guitar head and trying to get a feel for the level of stress my dog's going to have.
yoslate Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 The peghead on my Super is elaborate and exquisite. I've put the hard eye on it with a magnifying glass; it's nearly flawless. I have no idea how that is accomplished!

High Flying Bird Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I look at inlay work being more akin to jewelry making. Maybe we need to check into this in detail at the next gathering. Mark, you had better be nice to that dog........
brentrocks Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 i think the headstock veneers are done outside the shop...but i dont know by who
Steiner Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I think the key point here is that the headstocks are laminated. The inlay is in the laminate. I don't think I'd hit a headstock with a router or Dremel. Perhaps I'm being conservative.

With modern CAD techniques I expect it's quite a cheap process.
yoslate Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I'm with you... I'd expect they are laser cut somewhere and bought in, in bulk. I'd imagine so. The edges on the logo, eagle, and branch are perfectly crisp. The eagle's beak is even a completely separate tiny piece. I seem to recall seeing bundles of headstock veneer on the tour. Anybody have the time to check out Bird's photo archive of the tour?
