It is a Tungsten Creama-Wheat with an Eminence Legend 15” speaker (1518). I’m plugged straight in and have the channels jumped. I had 6l6 tunes in it for this gig so it is probably in the mid 20 watt range. The three knobs were on 7.

The Pickup are a very important in the recipe. They are theTyson Tonelab  60s, P90s. I love these pickups. They are THE BEST imo. They will drive the amp harder than a HB pickup, never muddy with the volume rolled back, no silly wax potting. I have 4 brands of P90s, Lollar, original ‘57 Gibson, Throbak, and the TTLs. For the H150 the TTL are just magic. They have every thing the ‘57 Gibsons have with under and over tones and touch sensitivity but more balls for the rock and roll. If anyone is looking for some P90s I cannot recommend these enough plus they are about the same price as the Lollars.

First off, NICE TONE! It totally represents "great guitar, great pickups plugged straight into a great amp tone". The mids are really singing and it's sustaining perfectly,

Next thing, Tyson Tone Lab pickups... I have them in two guitars, and have installed them in 3 other guitars, and they all smoke. He gets the wind just right so he doesn't need potting. I don't agree with you at all about the P90s drive the amp harder as I've compared Tyson P90s (installed in a Gibson 1956 reissue) against his Precious and Grace humbucker set (installed in a Gibson 1957 reissue) and frankly they both push the amp in a magical way. I do understand P90 obsession though as my favorite guitar is a Historic SG Special:)

Lastly the Eminence 1518 and big bottle 6L6s in your amp. I have had that combo in my Victoria Regal II until just recently, and like you, I only used the big bottles for louder gigs (typically I use Blackplate RCA or Green label Sylvania 6V6s). When I use the big bottles I change the rectifier tube to a 5U4). When I bought my Regal II it came with a alnico Weber 15 that just didn't spank as hard as the Eminence so I kept that Eminence in for a while and it always gave up the goods. And unlike many ceramic speakers it had a smooth top end. I recently installed an original Altec 418B in it though and I like the tone better than the Eminence.

Rockabilly69, I’ve always wanted to play a Regal ll. It is right up my alley with the versatility and simplicity. 

I must admit that I have never tried TTL HB pickups. I was basing my experience on the TTL P90s against a set of Trobak SLE-101+. The P90s sustain and longer, bloom more and just push harder. It is a little apples and oranges I guess with different magnet types etc. maybe I need to try the TTL HB pickups now. Mostly I have always found that P90s drive harder, it could be the “skinnier” tone that cuts more leading me to feel that they are driving harder. I have always attributed the drive to the two magnets making more inductance. I could be getting a little out of my league with my theories though.

Great Playing Chris. That guitar sings beautifully with the setup you have. Thanks for posting. One of my all time favorite songs too. I ended up coming back to the h150 p90 combination after selling the goldtop.  I love the lollars but I might have to try the p90s you mentioned.

RhoadsScholar, getting that guitar and amp from you changed entire outlook on what I want from my playing. I was already heading in the direction that I’m in now. After I started playing the guitar it fast tracked my abandonment of pedals. I still rock the duo regularly. The amp has metamorphosed but it’s soul is still there. The duo is my go to for all small club gigs.

I forgot that you play P90s. I have a 137 with whatever Heritage put in them. They are nice but yours re better. I have a 1962 Epiphone Casino and I think the TTLs have more of that “real” sound and I plan on getting some soon. thanks Christopher for the enlightenment!

Rockabilly69, those are great clips. The tone is perfect on the P90s, fat, vintage, and creamy. I love the edge of feed back too. I have an ES225 that does the same thing. 

The ability to run so many tubes really is killer in the Regal, especially EL34s for a loud Allman Brothers cover gig.

I had a set of Bobby Tyson’s P90’s from way back when he was first starting out, and selling them on eBay. I remember they were selling for an introductory price of (I believe) either $89 or $99 a pair. They were his ‘53 Wraptail low wind set. They were fantastic, and his business has done quite well since then. Wish I’d picked up a few more sets at that price. I always wondered why “H” went with the standard Lollar P90s’ as I’ve always found them to be very overrated.

I agree about the Lollar pickups. They are good but for the same price they just cannot hold their own against TTLs.

I've installed Lollars in friends guitars, and they have never felt like true P90s to me. They were more hifi sounding than what I typically listen for (raw), they were just too polite!

Because it's parallel single ended you can run a combination of mismatched power tubes which is pretty cool, like a 6V6 and a EL34 at the same time, for some american/british stew. I rarely run mismatched tubes, although I quite frequently run one power tube for recording at lower volumes. Not bedroom volumes, just not super loud. And it automatically adapts to different rectifier tubes too! I bought mine used for some guy that was basically cleaning house for $1500 and it has been the most versatile amp I own. for 90% of my electric gigs it would be my first choice of amps. Two downsides though, for a single speaker amp it's kind of heavy to lug around, and the trem kind of has a low frequency thump on higher settings which only really bugs me when I'm recording, and I am ridiculously anal in that environment. Listening to the way you play I really think this would be an amp you would enjoy. At low to medium volumes it's very blackface, but as the volume comes up so does the mids and it starts sounding like a tweed amp.
