nitroman58 Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 I have an early 2000 era Propect, and have been thinking about replacing the stock Seth Lover’s with something like the low wound Lollar pickups. Has anyone replaced pickups on this guitar, with positive results?
cobo Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 I haven’t tried that in a Prospect, but I have tried lower output pickups in a 535 and I really liked the results. Lowering the Seth Lovers further away from the strings by just a few millimeters can make your current pickups lower output. If you haven’t tried that, you might want to consider that first.
nitroman58 Posted March 27, 2021 Author Posted March 27, 2021 Thanks, I will give it a try. I do like the bridge pickup, but the neck pickup is a bit muddy for me.
GuitarsGuitarsGuitars Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Underwounds are going to change the Tone quite a bit. GLASSY Highs, less Mids and bottom ... But different. Respectfully - Lowering the pickup won't give you that.
GuitarsGuitarsGuitars Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Just now, nitroman58 said: Thanks, I will give it a try. I do like the bridge pickup, but the neck pickup is a bit muddy for me. A good underwound PAF would MAKE you roll back the Tone a little. Super 74 Custombuckers are hands down the best.

Memphis Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Like a previous poster-I too had Lollars low wind Imperials in a 535, and I loved them! My Prospect also has the Seth Lovers, while a great PUP; I did like the Lollars more (especially in the neck). I have zero experience with lowering or raising pup height, so I can’t comment on that aspect. good luck!

In a way I envy the guys in the 1930s. They either played acoustic or electric. If they chose the latter, it was a Charlie Christian almost always. That still is a popular pickup among Telecaster and some other guitars. Life was simpler then.
GuitarsGuitarsGuitars Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 My Holy Grail in an UNDERWOUND Pickup. Although Custombuckers are a Damn Fine PAF as well....
TalismanRich Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 I'm with MartyGrass. The problem is that when there are 200 choices, it's hard to say know anything for certain. What's good for one is junk for another. As a wise man once said, "Just play the f*****g thing!"
