madbanjoman Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 I have 1999 H140 that has been rewired so many times that I don't remember the original layout for the controls. My question is: are the volume knobs in the green circle or the red circle originally? Thanks for the help in advance! Jt
FredZepp Posted April 5, 2021 Posted April 5, 2021 With standard wiring it would be the red circle... but it appears that this was originally wired with a VIP (Variable Inverted Phase) system which is more complex. This chart is how a right handed VIP works.
madbanjoman Posted April 5, 2021 Author Posted April 5, 2021 Thanks! I no longer have mine wired in the VIP system. The toggles only split the coils now. From a righty perspective, I have the lower left as the neck volume and the lower right as the neck tone. The upper left is the bridge volume and upper right the bridge tone.
DetroitBlues Posted April 16, 2021 Posted April 16, 2021 I've never seen a single cut with the pickup selector switch located there. I think that was a custom order as the pickup selector location is where a H170/137DC go. Or is it too early this morning and I need more coffee. Who knows....

I bought it new online, but I have often wondered why the H140's that are older aren't laid out like mine or the newer ones.
Mauseth Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Just in case of interest. This is the original standard schematics for a H140guitar 1986. Backsides of covers from the same guitar. Seems to be a leftover from Gib...
Gitfiddler Posted May 8, 2021 Posted May 8, 2021 Interesting. With Heritage you never know what you'll find under the control panel.
DetroitBlues Posted May 20, 2021 Posted May 20, 2021 Never seen that under the hood before. Usually the sticker under the toggle switch plate is on the control plate.

That is how I modded mine.
