les paulverizer Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I've just bought an Heritage H150; my second best axe EVER, second only to a '54 Gold Top (customized with Humbuckers) I had years ago, and that my friends says a lot!!!!!!!! Tomorrow I'm gonna have some Seymour Duncan Antiquity's fitted, to replace the frankly lame/mediocre standard Shaller 50's. Has anybody else here done the same mod?
Dick Seacup Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Haven't done any mods to either of my Heritage's, but... [move]Welcome to the Club![/move]
GuitArtMan Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Antiquities sound great in Les Paul style guitars. Welcome to the club.
Kazwell Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Welcome to the club! Here's your first reading assignment!! Actually it is a one page web article where a reviewer compares a variety of "PAF" style humbuckers. The PUs in the comparison were only between Gibson (referred to as the "G word" by many folks here) and Seymour Duncan and tested in a LP guitar. There was a good variety that included the "G" word 57 Classics and the Burstbuckers (1,2 and3) as well as the Seymour Duncan '59, Antiquity and Seth Lover (I have Seth Lovers in my H-150 and am really like them) Here's the article: http://www.legendarytones.com/vinpicup2.html I think you will be very pleased as to what the reviewer in this article says about the SD Antiquities. Enjoy!
jamison162 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Let us know how you like them. I've tried the Seths, will be trying the Alino II Pro's next. Currently have a WCR Darkburst in the bridge and REALLY like it.
golferwave Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 I have a wine red H-150 with the antiquities and can tell you that they're well worth the money. Read the article on the link that Kazwell posted as the authors comparisons are close to right on. The antiquities are pretty mellow at low volumes but really get with the program when you turn it up. Welcome aboard!
les paulverizer Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Ok, here's the update. Yesterday I fitted the Antiquity's to my H150; sublime, outrageous, inspiring, otherwordly, exilarating, hilariously motivating TONES (not to be counfused with Sounds, however good!) are all there for me to grab, manipulate and enjoy! Thanks to Kazwell for his link to that pup's shootout, the guy's right on the money (both Kazwell & who wrote the article) but by the time I read it the Antiquity were already in their final resting place; the pup cavity in MY guitar. Now I can honestly say it's on the par with my long lost/stolen 'bucker modded '54 Gold Top, a guitar that I thought was truly irreplaceable untill now. By the way, my '54 was done up to be an exact copy of Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow/Wired era "oxblood" '54, a guitar that apparently Seymour Duncan helped Jeff put together; it sounded awesome, unique, and to be able to say the same about my H150 I'll have to play it a bit more, both live and recording, as I only bought it Monday and replaced the pup's yesterday, but so far the pleasure I get from playing it is exactly the same: every possible 2 volume/2 tone controls combination yeld an absolutely ashtonishing array of TONES that rae nothing short of.......forget about it, I don't have words. I just say this; I set my Marshall as usual and I can go from Grant Green through Peter Green all the way to Van Halen (passing by Clapton, Jeff, Page, Billy F. Gibbons, even....80's cheese John Sykes type) all by manipulating the volume & tone controls and makin' sure THE ATTITUDE is there, but that's the leeeeeeeast of my worries cuz it's part of me anyway! Now I got a handmade guitar with handmade pup's, which produces gorgeous handmade TONES; as a guitar player that's the ultimate package. And the "Woman TONE".........ohhhhhh m-y God!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone should try it at least once in their life, no question abaout it! Now, this will only logically lead to 1 obvious question; since this is without a doubt the best Les Paul one can buy, AT ANY PRICE, how comes Les Paul's that have......something else on the headstock can, at best only come just about close? ( at CONSIDERABLE prices!). Bear in mind though that my question only takes Heritage and "the other" brand into consideration; Paul Geek Smith guitars, for some unknown reason that defies logic 'cuz they're truly wonderfully made, will NEVER swing, rock, or get my juices going. Long live The Heritagr and "the other" Brand
skydog Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007 Kaz: thanks for posting that article. very informative
