greywolf66 Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 After a few anxious days the latest member to the Family arrived safely . I'm very impressed , it reminds me a lot of my Custom Shop CS-356 . Very punchy and delicious tone. The '59 neck and Seth bridge is perfect . I've got 59's front and rear on my 575 C. Now the hunt is on for a 530
bsck1 Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 Always a happy moment when the incoming is as good as you had hoped! Beautiful Enjoy!
greywolf66 Posted February 9, 2022 Author Posted February 9, 2022 settling in nicely , pushing 67 I figured a guitar with a "touch of Grey" was a perfect choice
bolero Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 That's cool! Dig the Jerry figure, too Congratulations!
hinesarchtop Posted February 11, 2022 Posted February 11, 2022 It matches Jerry's beard! Such a unique piece.
greywolf66 Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 It was time to clean her up a bit so I polished the pickup covers cleaned everything and oiled the fretboard and WOW was I surprised how pretty it is. I've been a Luthier for 23 years and it's unusual to see such nice figure anymore. Put on a fresh set of D'darrio XL flatwounds ..(10-48) the tone is pure velvet , even at high gain I have the same set on my H575C and loved them . The round wounds may go back on this summer, for now I'll just groove .
josephdviviano Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Wow beautiful. How do you get these guitars in non-standard colors? Is this an older model or did you request it?
greywolf66 Posted February 16, 2022 Author Posted February 16, 2022 this color (trans black) was a limited run , this is a 2017 . I've only seen 2 other 535's in it.
bolero Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 That is a nice looking fretboard! What kind of oil do you use on it?
greywolf66 Posted February 18, 2022 Author Posted February 18, 2022 for the fretboard I use Howard's Cutting Board Oil , it's food safe and works well. I'll rub it in and let is sit for 30 minutes then wipe off excess.
greywolf66 Posted February 20, 2022 Author Posted February 20, 2022 As I'm so inspired by the new 535 I thought I'd build my own , love the Laguna blue burst I've seen so I've tried to replicate ...no lacquer yet and a lot more work to do but it's fun to have a Spring project . They will make a nice set . I'm planning on a series of 4 , 1 for each season ...this is Spring ..
bolero Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 What??!! You whipped that up in a couple days? Let me guess: you built it while watching TV, just like knitting a scarf?
