MartyGrass Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Marv Lamb and Floyd Newton were masters of this finish. The goals were to do this symmetrically, tastefully, and with smooth color transitions. Bad jobs are asymmetric or have discreet bands of color. The guitar below is a great format for this burst because of the maple neck.
rockabilly69 Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Great looking guitar! Gotta wonder if Marv or Floyd had a hand in finishing these...

yoslate Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 This one's gone, but I think I know where. It was much prettier than this, in the flesh:
Gitfiddler Posted February 26, 2022 Posted February 26, 2022 Marv built my Sunset Burst H-525 Custom. Ron (HFB) took this shot as Marv showed off the freshly sprayed body. Finished product:

The amp is an early 'green board' Fender Blues Jr., modded to the hilt, including a Tone Tubby speaker. The custom cabinet is flame maple w/purpleheart, made by the now defunct Sultone Custom Cabs.

I don't really know about Blues Juniors as the few that I heard were not my kind of amps, smaller sounding and thin, but I've heard they can sound really good with mods (BillM), and I like tone tubby speakers. The cabinet though is a work of art! And I've commented on that guitar before, it's a beauty!
