"Old Style Burst"...Black sheep of the finish family?

Becoming sort of enamored (ok...slightly obsessed!) with the 'Old Style Burst' finish as I day dream about the 575 that I'll one day own. I was browsing through Wolfe Guitars online inventory when it struck me that they didn't have a single Heritage with this finish in stock.

What gives? Is the Old Style Burst the black sheep of the Heritage finish family? What do you reckon is the most popular finish among Heritage fans?

i think OSB was just used sssooooo much in the 80s and 90s....people just got tired of it????

Change the name to Vintage Burst & it will be everywhere.

OSB is my absolute favorite finish from the boys. Something about it just screams Class to me.

these are photos of my Millie DC, OSB.

I like the OSB better than Antique burst, which is a browner edge vs. the OSB blackish edge out of a vintage SB.

sunsetburst is a variation of OSB, adding the red.

I like OSB.  Gimme a H137 in OSB, that id like to see..

I'd forgotten about that poll, 'slate.  Good call.  I don't know that there's a Heritage finish that I don't like, but the OSB really does look good - great shots, chico and fiddler, of your guitars.  That 525 on the other posting looked good in it, too.  That does seem odd with all the guitars in inventory that there isn't a single OSB, tho... maybe they sell faster?  At 7 votes on the poll, that's a pretty good showing so you'd think they'd be somewhat popular.

The OSB looks to red for my tastes, I'm a fan of the ASB myself. Though don't get me wrong I'll rock a Heritage of any color :)

Hi Jazzpunk,

Well I thought that Almond sunburst was my favorite when I bought my 535. The I bought a 575 OSB over the internet.  The OSB wasn't particularly appealing in the web photos once I saw it in person it looked fantastic. I don''t think I'd change anything. I've got kinda traditional tastes anyway I suppose.

Cheers,

Z

The OSB always seems to show some red in the pics. When Ren sent me the pic of my Millie NFB OSB I thought it was red. Not at all once it got here. Must be something in the way it reflects that particular spectrum.

This is the 157 OSB I sold to Cosmik.

And this is my Millie DC OSB. The first one is the pic Ren sent me.

And this is my own pic of the same guitar.

Looks like we're going to have matching gear if I can get my hands on an OSB 575!

Do you have any pics?

I got a guitar on order and asked for Sunset Burst without the red. I spoke with Ren after he received the wiring kit I sent that included a photo of a 58 Gibbon OSB showing black ears and edges with the large center area that yellowish color and he said "that Old Style Burst" so I have been going over this since December. Guess I'll be surprised when it comes but I did have a vision of a 58 style burst.
