justinmc Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I see that we don't have an encryption certificate at the moment... perhaps it's been missing for a while and I didn't notice?
Dick Seacup Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Hmm. https:// works for me and doesn't show any certificate issues.
justinmc Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 Apologies, I should have inspected more closely before flagging this. The cert is there. It doesn't redirect from http to https (a current best practice), and search engine results for "heritage owners club" return the http URL, so I expect that many people are hitting the http service, which is unencrypted.
Administrator Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 I have updated the board software this morning. This should resolve a few issues that users seemed to be experiencing. I've also changed the base URL from http:// to https://, which should force SSL. Maybe. We'll see.

Whatever you did, Mr. Administrator, cleared up a litany of oddities here. THANK YOU for your efforts keeping us'ns up to date in this online world connecting with the faithful. How apropos is it that you do it on a Sunday. Hope all is well in Admin-land.
LK155 Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Well, the site has certainly got over its latency tendencies, which is greatly appreciated. For a long time I've been thinking all those electrons had to slow down before they jumped over the border, but I'm glad someone found a way around that.
kbp810 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 My sockets feel much more secure and layered now.

TalismanRich Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Great. I normally only go to HTTPS sites, but this was the one exception. Occasionally a browser update would just tell me "WHOA! DANGER AHEAD". Now I'll only get that warning from the porn sites!

TalismanRich Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Is anyone else experiencing extremely slow response times? It's taking a minute or 2 to load some pages. Other sites are clicking normally, it's just the HOC. I'll click a topic, go off to another site, and come back after it quits spinning.

Based on the inability to do so many other options, I'll take it.
TalismanRich Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Its weird. Last night it was a crawl. This afternoon, it clicked in about 2 seconds. Maybe I'm logging in at the same time as all the webcrawler bots.
Administrator Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Could be any number of things. There are some 250+ tables in the database that underlies the HOC. Backups run nightly, weekly, monthly. Could be the backups are running long. Could be someone hasn't done any database maintenance in many months (but is now done). Could be the board software really prefers/is optimized for (in recent versions) a different db engine than what half the tables are using (something someone will definitely have to address at some point, but it's kind of a pain). Just as an aside, there are somewhere north of 2.1 million rows in the HOC database, spread across the various tables. You all have been...busy these last 16 years.
