big bob Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I think Brent is still working on his tribute to Johnny winter..
emilio Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Whenever anyone asks me to recommend some gut crunching, heart breaking blues/blues playing, I always refer them to Shrine 69. And, btw, that is a beautiful guitar.
slider313 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I think Brent is still working on his tribute to Johnny winter.. Is he looking for an Erlwine Lazer? ;D
slider313 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Here's a rare picture of Johnny with a Lester. Does that neck pickup look flipped? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/b376/slider313/JohnnyWinter.jpg[/img]
Kuz Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 why flip the neck pup.. just courious.. Flipping the neck pup itself does very little (maybe a slightly brighter tone), but most flip the magnets inside the pup and then turn the pup around to get an out of phase sound when in the middle position. For example, Peter Green & BB Kings' tone.
tulk1 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 John, did you have the magnets flipped, then? Or just the pup?
Kuz Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 John, did you have the magnets flipped, then? Or just the pup? You only have to flip one pups magnets to get them out of phase (and I did in the neck pup). If you flipped both then they would be like a regular guitar with both in phase. The out if phase only occurs with both pups on (middle position). To be honest, I don't use it that much. It sounds like a Strat in the 4th postion (neck & middle) except a little more extreme. You can roll it off a little though. Hey, it helps to justify why I have 2 150s with humbuckers. But then again you would understand that with your 2 Millis!!! ;D

Kuz Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 Three way toggle like a normal 150- the middle, both humbuckers position, just sounds like something like the 4th position on a Strat.
tulk1 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 is that a five way toggle, how do you get 4 positions? Bob, you don't get 4 positions. John was saying the middle position sounds like a Strat in pos 4 (neck/mid out of phase), but stronger. That is something I could actually use, as I use pos 4 on my Strat probably more than any other. Ooops, I see John already answered.
Spectrum13 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 John, That's one fine top you got there. On your P90 Gold Top... Did you put in the Lollar 53s designed from Costello Pups? Also I understand Heritage is now using CTS pots instead of the WD, have they got brass shafts and 500 V & Ts?

I called Jason and we talked about the Sean Costello lower wind p-90s, but I LOVE the way the regular winds sound. All three of my Heritage p-90s just have the regular Lollar p-90s as far as I know. P-90 Eye Candy...
