peterbright Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 The pickup is a Kent Armstrong PAF Floater
tulk1 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 The pickup is a Kent Armstrong PAF Floater What does that mean - Floating pickup?
Dick Seacup Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 What does that mean - Floating pickup? It has spray foam under the cover instead of wax. If you dunk it in a glass of water, it would float.
tulk1 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 It has spray foam under the cover instead of wax. If you dunk it in a glass of water, it would float. Seriously? ??? Edit: Nice Try Dixie. I looked this up at Sweetwater: Floating Pickup A magnetic pickup mounted to the end of the fingerboard or the pickguard on a guitar (or to a non-vibrating part of other musical instruments). Floating pickups are sometimes used on archtop acoustic guitars so that adding a pickup won't interfere or change the vibration pattern of the top. Frequently the pickup jack, volume, and tone controls are mounted right on the pickguard, making the guitar's electronics entirely removable.
peterbright Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 It is not attached to the soundboard. It attaches to the pickguard and "floats" over the soundboard. It maintains (in theory) more of the acoustic qualities of the guitar. It also can be removed to go back to pure acoustic.

Paul P Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 My parents said they should have named me Alec. Alec Seacup ? Nah, doesn't sound right. I prefer Dick, for some reason.
