squawken Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Hey Guys I noticed a nice 157 on g-base. It is starting to peak my interest. From 2004, has HRW pickups, love the color. They are asking $1,899. I'm very familiar with prices on 150's but not 157's. Is that a good deal? Thanks
Dick Seacup Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I have no idea what the market is on 157s, but you could search completed items on feePay for a start. $1899 for a 3-year old 157 makes the couple-month-old one in our own For Sale section a steal, though, eh?
squawken Posted December 19, 2007 Author Posted December 19, 2007 Yes, for $1,500 it does seem like a good deal. But I like the red, and am intrigued by the D-VIP double Var-I-Phase system on it. Although I don't know if it is worth $400 more for that system.
JohnCovach Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 You can check the completed auctions on ebay, but $1200 is about as high as I'd go for a used 157. The 150CM's that get higher prices on ebay are the ones that have Duncans, tune-o-matic, stop tailpiece, and have great flame (in other words, the ones that look most like a Gibson). A 157 will tend to fetch a slightly lower price than a flashy 150 CM, in my experience. But if you really like a guitar, it's often worth paying a few hundred extra bucks. After a while you'll forget about the price and just be lovin' the guitar.
JohnCovach Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 An extra thought: the 157 over on the for sale board is mighty pretty.
