zydecosoultrain Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Hello all, The Heritage website refers to an article by Neville Martin about the HRW pickup. The article was in Guitarist Magazine in 2002, issue # 227. Does anyone remember what the outcome was, or if the article is accessible on a website somewhere? Cheers, Z
Dick Seacup Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I've never seen the article, but you might contact the publisher to see if they can shoot you a back issue.
AnH555 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Now that you mention it, I keep coming across auctions that say the HRW was chosen as the "best sounding pickup, by Guitarist magazine (UK)." Never looked into it beyond that, though.
zydecosoultrain Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 Thanks guys, I'll try to find a library with an archive of Guitarist Magazine. Trying to pin down the sound of a pickup in words is a curious exercise. Z

Cheers, Z Somewhere I have seen this article online, though I can't remember where. It's not a review of HRW pickups as I recall, it's a review of an H150 with HRW pickups. I'm sure if you google enough you'll find it.

The article was in Guitarist Magazine in 2002, issue # 227. Does anyone remember what the outcome was, or if the article is accessible on a website somewhere? Cheers, Z I do remember, and I have that magazine in front of me at this moment. That article was a "shootout" between Gibson LesPaul Std, PRS, McInturff and Heritage H150 CM Ultra. Actually they tried two H150. The Duncan equipped one was of less interest. Result: PRS was the "over all winner", LesPaul and H150 shared second Place. When it came to sound, the Heritage with HRW (and Schaller Bridge) outclassed them all. If interest I can scan or take pictures of that article. It covers 12 pages, pictures and cover included. cheers, Bombassa
chrisrock Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Which PRS did they use for the shootout, the old singlecut ?
Bombassa Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I dont know the difference between old and new. It seems very similar to that on my 2006 Goldtop. Alittle more open than that on the Les paul.
Bombassa Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Sorry I did not read your question. I am not into PRS, but the shape looks quite like a Les Paul. Deep singlecut. Almost down to the pickupcover.

I would love to see scans of that!
JeffB Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Aha--thanks!! I remembered it partially correctly at least. I would love to see scans of that! +1 I would be interested in reading that as well
tulk1 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Sounds like a Sticky in the making to me. Would be cool if you could scan to pdf.
zydecosoultrain Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 Thanks Bombassa, Looks like a few people would be interested in that article. I'd certainly like to see it. I checked the city library and even the conservatory and neither had that magazine. Neville Martin usually writes pretty thoughtful articles. Cheers, Greg
Paul P Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 It might be a good idea to get the magazine's permission before posting scans of its pages. They sometimes don't appreciate that sort of thing.
zydecosoultrain Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Hmmm, where to from here? Perhaps I should send an email to Guitarist Magazine and ask them? My guess is back issues from that far back are unlikely.
zydecosoultrain Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Hi Bombassa and Paul P, The good guys at Guitarist got in touch with me about downloading the article from 2002 on the same day that I emailed them. There are no back issues available from 2002 but the Deputy editor said it is OK to download a scan from the HOC site. The deputy editor actually asked if I needed him to do a scan, how's that for helpful? Cheers, Z

Bombassa Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 I have made several attempts to upload the scans without luck. Getting a message about upload directory. Should be a piece of cake. ??? Bombassa
