Splitting coils on yer Heritage

For those of you who have coil splitting capability, I was wondering what guitar came to

mind when you split the coils. For me, my H170 sounds very close to a Tele. Compressed and snarly. What say you?

i have push/pulls on the Silverburst's HRWs and it is a little twangy....i need to spend more time with that option on that guitar to really get a feel for it.

Personally, I've never heard split coils on any of my guitars that I actually liked. That was even with pickups designed to actually BE single coils when split.

For a while I thought of the split switch on the H-160V as "thin and thinner."

Hmmm, wonder if there's a human formulary for those switches?

Coil tapping... hmm...

That's what Strats & Teles are for!

Seriously though, I'm with Kenny on this one. In order for the coil splitting to sound acceptable, you need to have some HIGH output humbuckers. I, for one, don't want to sacrifice the tone of the humbucker for a below par Tele/Strat tone. So if I want a single coil tone, I play my Tele.

+1.

Ive spent to many years playing a strat.

I agree that the coil split on my 150 is a compromise. Also the playing feel is so different. I had to sell my Strat to buy my bass. Such problems. But at least I can pretend I'm playing a Fender.
