Sitamoia50 Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Hello HOC members. New member, new Heritage owner. Ive owned about every LP (real , copy or otherwise) there is too own/play. Just in the past yr alone I have gone thru a couple Gibson LP Standards (1 decent, 1 God awful), A couple mij Tokai Love Rocks, 1 mij Burny, A few USA Hamers (very nice) among others in the pursuit of my "Quest for LP tone". Lo and behold on my lunch hour last week I walk into the music store I work next too and hanging up is a 2002 Heritage 150CM Goldtop. Needless to say after playing it I got home immediately listed a few gits on ebay and took the Heritage home. Here's where it gets good. You never truly know what a guitar can do or just how good it is till you have it setup the way you like it and play it thru a rig you like. Well after settin' it up to my liking and playin it thru my setup I was just blown away. This Heritage blows away any LP Ive had or played. The sustain is just truly insane and just off the charts, course Im sure it has to do with the fact that this is by far the heaviest guitar Ive ever owned (I didnt think wood could weigh this much....lol). While the weight might turn some ppl off, I like 'em heavy. Even better was the fact that it sounded great with the stock pickups it came with which were Schallers so I can just imagine what It'll sound like with a set of high quality PAF's (thinkin' maybe Seth Lovers or along those lines) or whatever else I decide too put in it (any suggestions?). Anyways, after all the searchin', playin' and scouring I have finally found.........."THE ONE" !!!!!! ........Oh yeah, got it for a great price also $850 + tax. Here's a pic..... http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j121/sitamoia50/HPIM6793.jpg[/img]
Dick Seacup Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Welcome to the Club! Great looking guitar, and I think $850 is a bargain for a 150.
CrustHunter Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Yes welcome to the Heritage appreciators corner. HRW pups are awesome if you can find them!
Kazwell Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Welcome aboard. I can totally relate to your situation!! I have been playing for around the same number of years. Never owned an actually Gibson LP, but have owned other Gibsons. never was impressed enough with the way they felt to purchase one. Have purchased a few copies on E-Bay just as a lark and an ode to the early years of my playing when the LP was king in the mid-late 70's. I was led to the Heritage 150 as well, through a music store who suggested it as a higher quality/lower alternative to a Gibson LP. I ended up picking up a new one on E-Bay for 1300- would have preferred to pay 850 for a 2002!! I really am happy with it, and along with the three LP cheapies I own, I have some high end Fenders and Gibsons along with however the 150 is now my go to guitar. I agree, it IS heavy and evidently they can vary in weight and although I haven't weighed mine, I would guess it is pushing close to 10 lbs. Hint-a good padded bass stap helps a lot. I had the Seymour Duncan 59's on mine, and although they are a good all around pickup, I opted for the Seth Lovers and am really happy with them. Antiquities are also well liked by many folks in this forum . One advantage to Seymour Duncan is that if you aren't happy with a PU, you can send it back in for excahnge (given you haven't cut the contact wires). Congrats on your new purchase!!
Kazwell Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I was led to the Heritage 150 as well, through a music store who suggested it as a higher quality/lower alternative to a Gibson LP. Whoops!!!! Thats what I get for sending this out from work, don't always have time to proof read!!!That statement was MEANT to read "higher quality/lower price alternative to a Gibson LP". Whew....glad I caught that SNAFU which would have been considered blasphemy (with good reason I may add) around here!!
JohnCovach Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 You have been bit with the Heritage bug--this often leads to multiple purchases! I'd go with a pair of Duncan '59s, a tune-o-matic bridge, and a traditional stop tailpiece (the Tone Pros stuff is great) to really bring out the tone in that guitar. I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to swap out parts though. I often think too much emphasis is put on pickups; the Schallers sound fine.
DrFrankStein Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Very nice guitar. I am currently drooling over its P-90 endowed sibling.
AnH555 Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Welcome aboard! I still think of donuts when I hear Duncan, but I'm learning. The chrome hardware looks really good on that.
yoslate Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Welcome to the forum; it's fab here! The experience and informative postings are invaluable! Lovely goldtop! By the by...I really like the Schallers; they've been slagged just a bit here, but the tone thing is awfully subjective, innit? In fact, when I switched my Schallers out of my 150 for a pair of Phat Cats, I slapped the Schallers into my Lester Polfus. They sound terrific. After they compliment my tone, I love to tell the LP Dagwoods what the p'ups are, just to watch 'em process.... ;D
soybean Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Welcome to the Club! I'm another one who actually likes the Schaller pickups. Although in the first few years, Heritage guitars had an earlier type of Schaller pickup that sounded different (and not as good in my book).
Sparky Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Nice guitar dude... whats with all the Post-it notes on your stereo window?
Kuz Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Congratulations. There is nothing like when you find "the one". Until you find the next few "the ones" ;D
Sitamoia50 Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 Thanks for the responses and the input. I was already thinkin' bout putting on a tonepros Bridge & a different Tailpiece. As far as the Schallers go, Im kinda mixed. The guitar did blow me away with those in it and they do sound very good I must say. Even if I do put different pickups in I will definately use those elsewhere. It's just that this Heritage by virtue of "knockin' me on my ass" is gonna be "The head honcho", "numero uno", "A Number 1", "The big Cheese", you get the point ...LOL, my go too guitar, therefore im gonna put the best pickups I can get my hands on in it.
Sitamoia50 Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 Nice guitar dude... whats with all the Post-it notes on your stereo window? That is what is called a 5 1/2 yr old daughter...................she knows to stay away from the guitars though!
Sitamoia50 Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 Congratulations. There is nothing like when you find "the one". Until you find the next few "the ones" ;D Amen!
Thundersteel Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Welcome to the club! Nice H150! You are hereby awarded 1 karma point for adding a picture on your very first post!
skydog Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Is that a '52 AVRI lurking in the background?
Cryoman Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Congrats on a nice guitar at fabulous price. My 10.5 pounder H150CM, like yours, is my reigning tone & sustain champ, just amazing. Welcome to HOC, you've started down the Heritage road with a terrific choice of guitar. Cheers, Cryoman
les paulverizer Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Got on this forum as soon as I bought an H150, 1 month ago, cuz it just seemed such a "good" guitar; set it up to my liking, replaced the Shaller's with Seymour Duncan Antiquity's and.........I was wrong, it's not a "good" guitar...it's G-R-E-A-T!!! 8) I can honestly say that I don't own guitars, or good guitars; I own great guitars, you know the 1 in a million Strat, Les Paul,...but the H150 is the best guitar I've ever owned or played, period! Yes, like our friend at the beginning said, it is The One. Last night I nonchalantly walked to my room, plugged it into my Marshal and......the room exploded, and so did I! I'll never get used to it, it's always like "the first time", well, and so it should be when you found The One, right? Exilaratin'...orgasmic...inspirin'...! ;D
Sitamoia50 Posted December 27, 2007 Author Posted December 27, 2007 Is that a '52 AVRI lurking in the background?Actually that is a mid-80's Fernandes mij Tele. I was just in Guitar Center (which i usually stay away from) yesterday and I was pluckin' on a '52 AVRI, it was nice though for the price I paid for the Fernandes I would buy the Fernandes again.

We're not going to be gettin' together to play till after the holidays and i just couldn't wait to hear the Heritage thru it and yes.............It was Exilaratin'....orgasmic...and very inspirin' !!!!! The only difference with me was I didnt do it nonchalantly, I did it very purposely!!!!!......lol
jacques Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 and indeed don't pull out those Schallers too soon. just listen what they do on a much thinner guitar (H127): http://boomp3.com/m/45da79d60902
