brentrocks Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Have you tried just raising the pick-ups closer to the strings? Sometimes that does the trick and saves a bunch of time and money. For sure man! that makes a difference!!
michaeljames Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 ;D I promise never to chime in again on this...until I have Ren install the HRWs I have in the White Whale H150 I have. I'm thinking the pickups, guitar, amp combo make the sound - combined together with the 'gut' instinct and skill level of the person applying the pressure to the strings, wood, and hardware. Does that make sense? As a marketing guy, I believe the 'new' 'botique' pickup manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank...the ones that are left! Hee-Hee! $400-$500 per set? There is nothing wrong with the Schallers. They are really good pickups, and as good as anything G***** has put out since 1988 - If you know how to play! ;D

Scooter Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 The P-Rails are made by Seymour Duncan, check out this YouTube demo by Duncans own Frank Falbo. The guitar used in the video is a 170. Purely by coincidence my own 170 is being fitted with P-Rails at the moment. > Southpaw! Thanks for the link to that video. I can't say I've ever heard P-rails up 'till now. Wow. That was some nice sounds. Me likes. Give us a report on how you likes when you get that 170 back.

barrymclark Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Any possibility that these prails are available with a gold top so that it just fits right in with the tuxedo look of a 157?
SouthpawGuy Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Any possibility that these prails are available with a gold top so that it just fits right in with the tuxedo look of a 157? As far as I know they are available in black only. The 170 in the Duncan demo uses cream coloured P-Rails, I think they are a Duncan custom shop option. http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/elec...e/prails_shpr1/
smurph1 Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Good Morning..I just discovered how to make my H-140 sound a lot better without changing the pickups..(I really can't afford it right now)..I had been running it through my Gibsonette amp, which sounds wonderful clean. But distorted, not so much..I got my Blues Junior back from a friend I loaned it to, and Voila!, it sounds a lot better! The junior has a lot more head room to it, so with a bit of chorus to fatten it up, it sounds great..even in the middle position which was the one giving me trouble..I was so focused on the guitar as the problem, i didn't even think about using my other amp! I'm not afraid to play distorted anymore..
Spectrum13 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Good point! You can improve the sound of any pickup by plugging into the right amp. I got a great deal from Graham @ Wolfe on a Swart Tweed and it arrived yesterday. Perfect match for the P90's.
smurph1 Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 Cool..P-90's are wonderful pickups..Glad you found an amp that works well with them..Rock On..
