Sparky
I bought mine for two reasons... 1st it was so damn inexpensive and second I was planning on running my Tonelab LE through it for the occasional jam session. I thought it would have plenty of clean headroom but, alas, it has virtually none. I've read that some cats trade out the pre-amp tubes to reduce the distortion but I really don't want to spend more money on the thing... I'm thinking of selling it and buying a cheapo solid state amp from the '70's or '80's that has nothing but clean headroom.
Steiner
Sparky - my first tube amp was a crate. I was So proud of myself for knowing to buy a brand new tube amp. Turns out, it was a turd. New tubes, speakers, re-bias - - nothing. It totally lacked a soul. On the positive side, I recently bought a crate 2x12 cab. Pretty poor workmanship but had two ceramic Tone Tubbies, casters and tilt arms ala Fender. For the scratch it was worth it.
