L.A. Rock Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Hello: I am new to the site and would like some help in identifying this model. Also it has the BGN on the back of the headstock but I cannot find anything wrong with it. Thanks,L.A.
Dick Seacup Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Welcome to the Club! For a discussion of BGN, look no farther than this thread where the significance of BGN was recently discussed. As to identifying your unknown model, a description and pictures would be helpful.
L.A. Rock Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 Hello: When I find out how to get pics up I will, But the guitar is a solid body it has a thin body like a old gibson melody maker. the body has the general shape of a les paul with a sharp lower cutout. The area where your picking arm would rest is elobnated similar to a gibson firebird. It looks like a les paul firebird. It has two chrome covered humbuckers and a three way toggle and then two small toggles. One volume and a tone. Although it does have the infamous BGN stamped on the back of the headstock I have been unable to find anything wrong with the guitar. It has a shiny black finish with a clearcoated mahagony, one piece neck. It is a set neck guitar. The serial number begins with the letter C . The guitar is awesome and I can't put it down!!!!!!!! Thanks again
L.A. Rock Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k260/cade518/TheHeritage1986002.jpg[/img] Can anyone identify this guitar?
L.A. Rock Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 Hello: I had to ask my youngest daughter how to upload pictures to this site. I can play the heck out of a gutiar or take one apart and rebuild. Ive even built an acoustic and a few electrics but to upload a pic I was lost!!!!!!!!!! I have posted a pic a couple of topic above this one. Thank you members for your help. L.A.
L.A. Rock Posted December 30, 2007 Author Posted December 30, 2007 The picture is now up on the siite. L.A.
doggy1972 Posted December 30, 2007 Posted December 30, 2007 Hi.Try looking in the control cavity of the guitar. Its usually on a sticker on the cover.
Dick Seacup Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 I was expecting a Firebird (someone posted a picture of one from Europe, IIRC, a while back). That is definitely not what I was imaging it to look like. Regardless, that's pretty cool! Almost like an SG meets a Telecaster. Like Doggy said, usually there's a sticker on the inside of the control cavity cover that lists the model and color. If that fails, I've had good luck emailing pictures and asking questions of Ren at Heritage.
doggy1972 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Very unique looking guitar. Ill be really interested to find out what it is. Kinda Firebirdish. You have set us a good mystery.
L.A. Rock Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 Hello: I would love to see a Heritage Firebird!!! I would like to thank those members who led me to look on the back of the control plate. I now know that I am the proud owner of a H 125 black. I still can't figure why the BGN is stamped on it, I have owned 2nds from Gibson and it is quite noticeable why they were stamped that way. With this guitar I'm puzzled but it really doesn't matter since it looks, plays and sounds so good!!!!!!!!!!! L.A.
doggy1972 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Ahah. Bingo. Im gonna google it right now see if I can find some info.
doggy1972 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Apparently you own a softball glove. Hehe. Cant find anything on it. As long as you like it thats all that matters. Really unique look. How does it feel/sound. SG, Tele or maybe other.
L.A. Rock Posted December 31, 2007 Author Posted December 31, 2007 A softball glove !!!! That's a good one and evey time I look at it I'll remember it. Thanks for the humor. This is a great site and I will surely be looking for more Heritages (a firebird?). It sounds like a SG and has more of a older Les Paul thin neck. Every thing about it is done with precision and class, even for a plain bodied guitar. I believe the body is Mahagony like the neck. L.A.
doggy1972 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Heritage are quality without question. They seem to be how G***** should be. The unusual older models are particularly interesting and, usually really good deals.
JohnCovach Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 We had a thread on the BGN stamp a while back. The consensus seemed to be that it had been a practice at Gibson to mark seconds with BGN (bargain) and these were sold to employees at a significant discount; the guess was that Heritage continued that practice for a time. The guitar you have seems like it may be a prototype from the 1980s--something Heritage was trying out as a new design (they did a lot of that back then). To see a Heritage Firebird (H-357) download one of the old catalogs off the Heritage site. There were two Firebird designs: one with banjo style tuners and then another with standard tuners (this one replaced the first one in the line).
AnH555 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Welcome, L.A. Rock. That looks like a nice guitar to have in your collection. Almost Carvinish...very cool.
