brentrocks Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 looks like a finsh check to me too, but look it over closely!!!! if you run your fingers over it and you can feel a ridge, ASK QUESTIONS!!!!! congrats on the new Heritage, i hope it works out....oh and WELCOME to the HOC!!!!!!!!
yoslate Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Nice looking 150! I'm with bob. Impossible to tell from those pics, but it may (or certainly may not) have taken a shot that caused a crack in just the finish. Or it may very well be non-stress related checking, as bob noted. Does the neck seem stable? Any telltale signs at the heel of the neck, where the neck joins the body, or on the face of the headstock just at the nut, or on the very top of the headstock's front and rear edges? Does it stay in tune? Does it seem particularly susceptible to changes in temperature or humidity? Can you strum the strings open and wag the guitar back and forth without much change in pitch? Can you tap hard around the crack, just above it and just below it, with a fingernail and not detect a change in the sound? Does the crack look different with the guitar unstrung? All not very scientific stuff, but what you're looking for is tough to spot.

barrymclark Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks and good luck! are you planning on owning so many Heritages, that you need 2 screen names? ??? I own so few it doesn't justify my one! haha. Well, that should change in the short term. WOOOOO H140!

barrymclark Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Your enthusiasm about your upcomming H 140 makes me smile ;DI have been wanting a Heritage for more than a decade now. I am just so pumped that I am getting one. Now if I can just talk someone into trading a black or transblack H137DC for my remodeled late 60's Gretsch 6120DC... haha. (It was a basketcase and the serial number was missing. It was dated by Dan Duffy on the Gretsch Pages forum who was a QC manager on the floor in that time period. He said definitely late 60's. I narrowed it down to 69 based on pictures where it related to the configuration of the controls.)
Spectrum13 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Barry if you are looking for a black or transblack 137 double cut.. they may not have been built. It's a brand new release and I have only seen a Ren rendering on the last website update.
barrymclark Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Yeah. I know it... I am just wishing. I know Wolfe Guitars has one on order. Looks like they are gonna go for about $1800 there depending on finish or whatever.. it will be slightly lower to way higher. haha.
Justpickin Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks and good luck! are you planning on owning so many Heritages, that you need 2 screen names? ??? I have only one to my knowledge....
