ORIGINALGIBBY Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Stumbled into an oppourtunity to purchase a H150CM. The guy wants 600.00. The repair was done by a real good luthier. It was a very good job. Is 600.00 to much?
smurph1 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Seems like it might be ballpark, but I would try to talk him down a bit..Maybe 5? My 2 cents..
tulk1 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 If the repair is done correctly, that join will be stronger than it was originally. What you have to consider is what if you decide to sell the guitar later. Fact is - altho' headstock repairs can be done properly, and done properly they do not affect the playability of the guitar, they do affect the value of the guitar. For me, if the repair is done well and creates no obvious flaws in intonation or stability, then $600 is a darned good price. And for a few $$'s more you could probably get the repair refinished so it wouldn't be as obvious, if not done that way already. Pics would be helpful if you could get them.
shook494 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I also think $600 is a good price if it's done well.
ORIGINALGIBBY Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Thank you all. I appreciate it. For what it's worth, I got it down to 400.00
Mikenov Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Wow, that is a good price. but :this_thread_is_useless_withou :this_thread_is_useless_withou :this_thread_is_useless_withou :this_thread_is_useless_withou :this_thread_is_useless_withou :this_thread_is_useless_withou >
Gitfiddler Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 IF it is a high quality repair, AND you want to get the most out of the guitar, you might consider shipping it back to Heritage or other top luthier shop for a refinish. Again, this is only pure speculation without the benefit of seeing your specific guitar. If you can score the guitar for $400 it's almost a no-brainer...if the repairs are done properly. Did I read somewhere here that Heritage is no longer taking in non-warranty related repair ordrers? ???
DC Ron Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Two cracked 535's sold in the last week on eBay for $800+. One wasn't even repaired. $400 is sweet. I'll take it!
brentrocks Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 i paid about $1000 for this.... http://s288.photobucket.com/albums/ll185/Heritageguitarpics/H555%20%202004%20H%20555%20Blueberry%20Burst/P1010024.jpg[/img] it has a head repair, but it is very minor, just a little crack, not a break
Kuz Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I would get a "Guitarfax" report on any used guitar I purchased. They are free from any reputable dealer. You know just in case your guitar was in a flood or the air bags didn't inflate. You could get yourself killed with out a "Guitarfax" report!

I just about choked on my beer (homebrew black lager, FTW!). You crack me up!
guitarjump Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Yes, definitely get the GuitarFAX report, and the KBB (Kalamazoo Blue Book) print-out for wholesale versus retail value of the guitar.
Kuz Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I just about choked on my beer (homebrew black lager, FTW!). You crack me up! Well I'm glad you "almost" chocked and didn't lose any of that wonderful stuff. I can't drink any alcohol at all (medical condition- pancreas), not really that big a deal to me but I do miss the occasional Grey Goose or Micro-brew. Now if Brent can get me some of that funny cabbage on the other side of the barn......
