JeffB Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Right now Im using just a Hughes and Kettner Replex in the loop of my Lone Star. I use it for solos and have it set just above unity with my amp so I get a nice volume bump as well as a short echo/delay. I need to also have a big wet wig out delay without the volume boost for a few songs. This means bending down and adjusting things mid song and then again to get back to my solo settings. I was thinking of just putting another delay pedal in the loop for long delays, but I noticed both my digidelay and Line 6 echo park seem to take something away from the sound? feel? of the amp. Thats why they were replaced in the 1st place. Ive used the TC G major before Through the loops of a couple of amps I have and it was actually quite good. The midi board and g major also became my channel changer. I have a Line 6 Pod XT Live and a Boss ME 50 but dont like running either through the fx loop(or any where near it). So apart from the G Major which Ive used and liked is there any other suggestion's for a multi fx unit. Not interested in anything that has preamp modeling. Basically just modulations and reverbs/delays. Im the guy who asked if gear really mattered

That just put me off rack effects. I tried the G Force in my Mesa Nomad. Liked it, but over kill for me. Wonder how an open G chord would sound through his system.

JeffB Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 The Line6 XT Live doesnt sound so bad just using it for modulations and time based fx in the loop, but it takes up a bit to much floor space. I also use a wah, tuner, xotic bb pre, plus a ch switcher. Its all just to much on the floor between me and the mic stand if I use the XT live as well. I think I could fit a Roland fc50 midi controller down there easy enough as well as the stomps. The g major has a built in tuner and has a relay for changing ch so that just leaves a wah and the BB pre. Hmm answering my own posts again
mars_hall Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I've been using a Rocktron Intellifex XL and a Prophesy for a few years now with good results. They have built in hush circuitry and a straight path runs parallel to the wet path through them so they are very clear. I use a MIDI pedal to change the effects when necessary my two cents
JeffB Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 I bought home a fx unit tonight and was prepared to muck around tweaking for a while. Was kind of looking forward to it. Went through the unpacking process calmly. Went through the connecting process calmly. Flicked the switch and.......DOA. No lights. No sound. Nothing. So I just played guitar instead. I've been using a Rocktron Intellifex XL and a Prophesy for a few years now with good results. It was good I think. Ill look into some of there stuff tomorrow. Thanks.
Neanderthal Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 The only rack FX I have is an Alesis Quadraverb 2--but I hardly ever use it. I'm not real big on bunches of delay, chorus, etc. But it IS a pretty cool gizmo. I'll likely start using it in our PA rack for the singer. I had a Line 6 POD Live XLT or whatever (floor unit), and I really wasn't all that impressed with the FX. Then again, it was probably just me not knowing how to optimize the tone/FX.
barrymclark Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I did once. THat was about 10 years ago... and it always was the Quadraverb. Since then though... I am just a guitar, cable, amp kinda guy.
Kuz Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Rocktron intellefex and Intelverb is the only rack stuff that I ever found to be transparent and let the sound of my guitar through it. With that said I haven't used it in 12-13 years. Now just a few analog pedals.
SouthpawGuy Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I recently rediscovered some of my gear from the 90's, a Boss GX-700 rackmount jobbie. It is great for all out hard rock, heavy blues and metal but not so hot for mild od and clean tones. It is very useful for practise though, I have it set up underneath my pc monitor and both it and the pc are connected to my hi fi system via a small 4 channel stereo mixer so I can play along with videos or mp3 clips etc. I also have a Yamaha QY-70 sequencer permanently setup now, so if I get the urge to make some sounds I don't need to go looking for amps or power adaptors etc.
