Well, I hope you do find your woman, but it may be hard to find one that doesn't mind your playing at 4am. There's got to be a blues song in there somewhere...
backline Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 My wife (of 33 years) was a friend of John Lee Hooker, and Van Morrison. She thought being married to a musician would be fun. I was the cure for her! She once was my biggest fan, but she's caught my act now. I joke with her now and say she picked me out from across the room saying, "Now THERE'S a project!" She doesn't laugh quite so heartily at that anymore.

But, I still hope, and play my 140..(at 4am)
yoslate Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 She once was my biggest fan, but she's caught my act now. Same for me! THAT doesn't take long, does it, backline?!
peterbright Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 You just have to pluck the right strings. Good luck.
gopeteygo Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Seriously, one of my favorite times to play is early in the morning! I usually start out with a nice clean tone and see where it takes me. I usually get up a 4:30 during the work week and I've been doing that for so long that I usually do the same on weekends. It's my favorite time of the day.
fxdx99 Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 a blues in E... "I woke up super early today, (4am) and couldn't get back to sleep So I just got up, made a pot of coffee and fired up the 140.. 1234... " Music and Lyrics by "Lightnin' Smurph" 2009.
skydog Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 You guys that get up at 4 or 5 in the morning, what time do you go to bed? I only need 5-6 hrs sleep lately, but can't seem to fall asleep much before midnight or so.
backline Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I got up up for work so early for so many years, I now think "sleeping in" is getting up at 7AM on weekends. I used to go to bed at 9 or 10. Now, I go to bed maybe 12:30 - 1AM, and am up by 6:30 generally. My eyes just don't stay closed past 7AM even with a big back-logged sleep deficit.

Ah, a romance story between a man and his wood! Wait, that didn't come out quite right...
Kuz Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 As long as she doesn't beg for m6th chords.... those can be a real stretch.
backline Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 As long as she doesn't beg for m6th chords.... those can be a real stretch. Really? The one I usually use is easy! 'Course with my technique, it wouldn't hurt my playing were my hands webbed.
barrymclark Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Speaking of firing up 140's..... I have this psychobilly project (rockabilly on steroids for those not in the know) and I have previously used my Japanese made 83 Ibanez for the punkish guitars and the Gretsches for the clean lead tracks. Well, I tried the 140 on for size... WOW! JUST WOW! You could hear EVERY chord. As fast as I was strumming and with as much gain as I was using.. you could hear EVERY one! When I put the Ergo electric upright in there... I was just in hog heaven. No joke. I loved the jazzy tone of the 140, now i too love the gain tone! Just.. SICK SICK SICK!
Thundersteel Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 You just have to pluck the right strings. Would those be the "G" strings?

Yeah..They are unbelievable..even with the humble Schaller pickups..Very versatile..the only thing that you probably would not be able to play on a 140 might be hardcore country..Still probably need a Tele for that..But with the right amp, Who knows?
barrymclark Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Yeah..They are unbelievable..even with the humble Schaller pickups..Very versatile..the only thing that you probably would not be able to play on a 140 might be hardcore country..Still probably need a Tele for that..But with the right amp, Who knows? Yeah. I know a few that go the Tele route... I actually am more of a fan of the old Gretsch tone for country. Just me I suppose.

Yep A Gretsch has that country "Somethin".. I just can't get past the way they look.. I always preferred the look of a Tele..But I guess I need to get over that..It's really about the tone..

I saw Martin Grady playing a black LP on some program yrs ago. Pretty good country tone from what I remember. Wasnt really into country back then though so maybe it wasnt. Maybe it was p90 equipped.
