An make sure your son has the video cam so you can post to youtube for us! Given the timetable, we'll expect up for viewing by 9:30 :D

2 beaters here - one a 'camping' guitar much like mr cup's banger. An old epiphone acoustic that's my wifes that stays on a stand year round, doesn't get humidified, rarely gets strings changed... can lean against the table sitting on the concrete patio. The 2nd 'beater' is the ubiquitous and durable tele for the reasons mentioned. It fits in the bike's saddlebag nicely so can go to the jams. And not that it's all that much less expensive dollar-wise, but can take pretty much any bump/bang without even going out of tune. And since it's a 70s model, it already has plenty of 'roadworn' character.

My beater guitar is an S101 Light Crust Doughboys' 75th Anniversary Strat-like contraption. Actually, except for the lowsy fret work it's a darned good guitar for $99. I was pretty tight with Bryan Gunsher (bg-pups) at the time I bought it. Had him make me a set of his V60's for it. It sits out most of the time. It's great when the music room gets junky and I need to grab something to work on a song. It'd be great as a travel guitar - which I think was the motivator for this thread, wasn't it? It's not something I'd ever take to a gig, but def serves a purpose. And think about it - while it sits on the stand next to the H's, that gives it something to aspire to. :D

I have a Johnson...resonator guitar, all-metal, nickle plated body, with some sort of composite neck. Indestructable! Best thing on the planet for slide. It's not easy to fret, but it is playable. Bags of fun, that one! And then there's the Tele, one of my favorite gigging guitars, upon which I rely heavily, but it's all torn up, so if I'm going somewhere for a few days and think I might play, I'll put that in the gig bag and go. Never worry about it, but it's a phenominal player!

After the nuclear holocaust all there will be left are giant mutant cockroaches sitting around eating spam from the can and playing teles.

I Personally only have the Heritage in my electric stable, so it's a moot point..But, some years ago I was playing an outdoor gig, during a heatwave..My LP Special became unplayable..due to the heat and humidity..But my old Tele came out of the case still in tune, and sounded great for the entire show..it wasn't pretty, but it got the job done..So I guess i really like the idea of a beater or backup guitar..Not necessarily to save my Heritage, but to give me another option in a pinch..
