SouthpawGuy Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Check out this very informative clip on YouTube YouTube Clip H-150 pickup comparisons: Seths - Lollar mini hums - Lollar P-90s compared
golferwave Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Jay emailed me that clip also. Hard to tell for sure through my crappy computer speakers but the Seths really shine. The mini hums sound good in the middle position, and the P-90's just rock! What does everyone else think?

tulk1 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I ran the clips thru the DAW and the old studio set up. Seths. W/without the Rat pedal. Sounded very much like the typical solid body guitar we've come to associate with this body style. Lots of guts w/without the pedal. Mini-hums. Not all that impressed dry. Had great clarity but without the umph that the Seths had. W/rat pedal - LORDY!! Lordy!!! Retained the clarity of the dry signal, yet really came alive with all the punch and grunt you'd expect from an overdriven humbucker. Much cleaner OD'd than the Seths. P90s. Very typical P90 sound as in a big 'ol fat Single Coil ripping up the airwaves. Not as gutsy as the Seths without the pedal. Nearly on par with the Mini's without the pedal, but to my ears not quite as clear. Funny, eh? Really shines with the Rat. All in all anyone should be happy with any one of those setups. For me, tho', it was Seths w/out the pedal. Mini's w/pedal.
Kuz Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I love the idea of a comparison, and I am trying to act like a snob or a$$. But with the comparison from the mic and computer speakers, I couldn't get a real idea of what those pups/guitars sound like. That clip had the p-90s sounding so muddy and compressed. That's not what my 150 GT p-90 sounds like at all. I agree the Seths sound best, but they would expect to cut through a muddy compressed file more than the others. To bad it wasn't run through a board and mic'd correctly.

Rude Dog Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 I really liked the mini hums in the middle position (neck+bridge pickup), lots of fat rich chime.
golferwave Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 If you go to Jay's website and click on the Black H-150 with P-90's and go to the youtube link it gives you a much better idea of the pure tone of these pickups. The Lollar P-90's rule! IMO.
