proxmax Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 hi guys, i'm new here and want to introduce myself. i'm klaus from bavaria/ germany. this h 150 is my first heritage. my other guitars are hamers. i use a diezel herbert head at an engl xxl cab. what pups you'd recommend for this guitar playing hardrock to classic metal? it has SD 59 in, but i'm not that much into those. cheers, klaus
smurph1 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Klaus..Welcome to the HOC!!! Don't really know about pickups for that type of music..But I have a friend that uses EMG's..Enjoy that 150..
mars_hall Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Not knowing your interpretation of hardrock and metal I would say check this out http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/i...post&p=8718

proxmax Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 what do you think about this? it is a haeussel vintage+ handmade in germany. Soundfile
Gitfiddler Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Welcome to the HOC! I can't give you info about pickups but I have to ask...Is that a NIKE inlay in your avatar? It looks pretty darned cool whatever it is.
Spectrum13 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 what do you think about this? it is a haeussel vintage+ handmade in germany. Big iron, 6 pre amp tubes and 6 output and that's some tone stack! Nice bedroom amp.
Dick Seacup Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 ...Is that a NIKE inlay in your avatar? It looks pretty darned cool whatever it is. Pretty sure that's a Hamer boomerang inlay.
Thundersteel Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Welcome to the HOC! Glad you made it over from the HFC!
proxmax Posted June 3, 2009 Author Posted June 3, 2009 Pretty sure that's a Hamer boomerang inlay. righty right! it is from a hamer californian elite '91 with massive figured maple body.
nat120 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I also play hard rock and metal and I have the H-157 and my recomendation would be to go with a Seymour Duncan JB SH-4 which is great for metal and very clear for palm mute crunching but not to hot to ruin you clean. If you are looking for some a little hotter I would go with the Seymour Duncan SH-5 for a little more heat. Here are some links http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/elec...h5_duncan_cust/ http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/elec...e/sh4_jb_model/
Scooter Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Welcome to the HOC, Klaus! Nice playing. Sounded Billy Gibbons-ish---Very cool. That's a beautiful Hamer you have there.
proxmax Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 thanks guys, but this was not me playing. it is my friend ACY, that sells Haeussel pickups. you can hear different models here: more soundclips sorry that it is in german - if i can help with translation, let me know. there are not pups to hear, but acy is working on it. they have a new Vintage+ model with alnico5 magnets, that sounds really interessting to me. later klaus
proxmax Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 Edit: i mented to say: there are not all of their pups to hear, but acy is working on it. they are pretty busy and develope lot of new models. is there another way to edit?
Dick Seacup Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 is there another way to edit? You get something like five minutes after you post to edit what you wrote. After that, it locks down and you have to make a new post. A few people have commented on this, but the Administrator has left it as is. If he shows up at PSPII, we should all bum rush him!

Warm, articulate ... very ZZ Top(ish) to me. Why not use a set of those if that is the sound you are after? Didn't notice, but has profusion checked in here, yet? He's quite the metal/harder rock player. He could give you some personal experience info.

tulk1 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 i really like those haeussels, but i have them in allof my guitars.just tried to find an alternative. cheers klaus Well, I can certainly understand that. So many choices. It's tough to have just one brand. What is it that you don't like about the 59s? Altho' they certainly weren't developed for the metal scene, that's for sure.
pro-fusion Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Didn't notice, but has profusion checked in here, yet? He's quite the metal/harder rock player. He could give you some personal experience info. I'm here now! In my H-157, I installed Duncan Distortions in both positions. That guitar is very heavy and has a bright top-end to it. The Distortions, while adding a lot of crunch, also fatten up the top end a little bit. It was rather shrill when I had Duncan 59s in it. With the Distortions, it sounds very much like John Sykes from his days in Whitesnake and Blue Murder, which is one of my all-time favorite guitar sounds. The ceramic magnets in the Distortions tighten up the low end and also add a touch of compression, which makes a high-gain amplifier sound massive. I wouldn't recommend Duncan Customs for a 150, since they add more brightness than Duncan Distortions. Also consider the DiMarzio Super Distortion. That was the classic ceramic pickup for Les Pauls back in the '70s and '80s. In my newly acquired H-150, the previous owner installed a DiMarzio Air Norton in the bridge. I was skeptical until the guitar arrived on my doorstep. The Air Norton is basically a hotter variation on a PAF, with an Alnico V magnet. It works great for getting that smooth Gary Moore lead sound like on "Parisienne Walkways," where you want to push the amp a little harder than a vintage PAF does, but not way over the top like a ceramic pickup does. The previous owner installed a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the neck, which is just silly. That pickup is way too hot for the neck position, though it doesn't sound bad if I screw it down very low. It's currently sitting lower than the pickup bezel, and still matches up volume-wise with the Air Norton! I'm going to replace the Tone Zone with an Air Classic that I have on order. That should match up better with the Air Norton. Sorry, I don't have any experience with the expensive boutique pickups. I've mostly played Duncans for the last decade or so.

tulk1 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 at the neck the 59 is quite ok, but at the bridge i need more balls. what about Zhangliqun Pure Handwounds? zhangbucker bridge open zhangbucker neck open Hard to say. There are scads of boutique pickup winders out there. One of my favs here in the States is Bryan Gunsher's BG-Pups. He's hand wound several pickups for me, albeit Single Coils. He got his start doing 'buckers, tho'. Pretty sure HoC member Big Bob has a HellaBucker from him. Our own Jon Gundry winds pickups under the ThroBak label. Altho' they run decidely towards the Vintage side of things. Besides, you really can't tell how a pickup is going to sound from online sound clips. Too many of the finer harmonics are robbed when the mp3's are created for streaming. Altho' I did like those clips.
