smurph1 Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Well..I decided to "Borrow" that Twin from a friend..I gotta tell you, I am very UNimpressed..Not that it's terrible, I just like the punchiness of the Junior, plust the reverb on the Junior is much more versatile..So, I guess my insticts on the Twin were correct..More expensive does not always mean Better..
mars_hall Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 have you thought about an evil twin? Rivera design
smurph1 Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 have you thought about an evil twin? Rivera designNo, but according to most of the brothers in the club, Rivera is a good quality amp..If my money situation improves I might want to get one..The Carr Rambler sounds like something I might enjoy as well..(Probably pretty spendy though)..AAS is like GAS, it's terminal..HAHA
mars_hall Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I was referring to the Fender Twin design by Rivera http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...+Reverb+II/10/1
smurph1 Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 I was referring to the Fender Twin design by Rivera http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...+Reverb+II/10/1 Right..Thanks for that..I knew that Rivera used to work for Fender..So does Rivera make an amp called the "Evil Twin"?
MacDoggie Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 How loud do you have the twin cranked? It really doesn't open up without being pushed. If you aren't in a big enough room to push it, it could be effecting the tone you're getting. If you are pushing the valves and aren't happy with it you may just not be happy with the tubes, they are very different nature than the EL 84s in the Junior you are comparing it with. Best of luck...
mars_hall Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Right..Thanks for that..I knew that Rivera used to work for Fender..So does Rivera make an amp called the "Evil Twin"? No... "Evil Twin" is a nickname given to it by the outside community due to its increased gain stage design. There are 2-3 variations on this depending on the date. Red knob twins are included but not the only evil twins Google Rivera Fender Evil Twin and you will see more

I really haven't cranked it, there is a cat in the house, and she already doesn't like my music even at low volumes..LOL..I think I will just keep the Junior..It really fits my style of playing, and it's a lot lighter..If I ever got a "Twin", I would have to get a "Roadie named Bart"

You gotta crank it!! They really come into their own when theyre loud. Kind of off topic, but: I have a hand wired, 60w, 112, 1981 Rivera designed Fender Concert. Ive used it for a long time. Cold sterile and harsh at home levels but sweet, punchy and toneful when turned up. But often I found the sweet spot was a couple of notches away even in a band situation. I made do but it always frustrated me. For the last 3yrs Ive run it on THD Yellow Jackets and put a less efficient speaker in it. I guess its now running at about 20w with a 25-30w speaker in it. The sweet spot comes around a lot sooner and Ive gotten tones out of it I just didnt know were in there even after using it for so long. I dont think I can now part with that amp. Aside from sentimental reasons it now sounds and reacts like I always wished it would.

It will scare the litter box out of the cat if you crank it at home. I have a Rivera Clubster 25 that runs 6v6 tubes and it sounds good at "tolerable" levels (at least I tolerate them) around the house and will open up for a small club with ease. There are other options that come close. But I still love the sound of a cranked twin...
Bluzman54 Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 I have a red knob "Evil Twin" in near mint condition......it is a great sounding amp. Great for rock and blues. I have been trying to dial it in for my Eagle, but can't find that sweet spot. JMHO Jim C
