proxmax Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 hi, does anyone know about those pickups? the Seymour Duncan black backs were made for ed roman in the customshop - it is said. can s.o. tell about the sound and impedance? the guys at ed roman don't answer. -klaus
jacques Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Do you mean you want those pickups? A few years ago I was looking for them too (to put in my Parker Fly de Luxe), but there is no way you can get them except through Ed Roman. So I contacted the Seymour Duncan custom shop and they were willing to wind to any spec at a very reasonable price and with excellent results. My advice would be: stay away from anything Roman. He likes people to think Black Backs are something unique and I don't believe that. (pickups are hardly unique imho, fingers are unique)

mars_hall Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Here the process! and released at the next corner
golferwave Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I had a set of the blackbacks in an H-150 that I used to own and they sounded good. If I remember correctly the troll mentioned Edward Van Halen prominently in his ads extolling the virtues of these pickups. Like most Duncan pickups these are fine, so enjoy them.
proxmax Posted June 13, 2009 Author Posted June 13, 2009 Here the process! and released at the next corner that guy is insane, specially that one with the gun. they had some good ideas, but i wouldn't buy from those idiots.

I thought he was having hard times. Don't know what happened to him? That's probably why he doesn't answer.

Looks like there is a web site that still sells his stuff but no storefront.

Looks like there is a web site that still sells his stuff but no storefront. I went in his store about 8 months ago when it was open. His prices were crazy! Old Kramer guitars that were pieced together for $1500? He was crazy. The guys working there were very rude and didn't give my buddy and I the time of day. I'm not surprised the store is gone. When he first came to town, the store was HUGE. He had like 5000 guitars in there and it was very good quality. That's when he was pushing Heritage guitars and had the class of 59 models going on. That store was cool, but it went down hill from there.
Millennium Maestro Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Hey shook, I think Roman moved his store front to Durango on the West side of Vegas. I have a buddy that worked at Romans... supposedly the Blackcacks are a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom and a 59er with a black painted base plates. I love these pickups by the way!! M.M.

Why would he move all the way over there? That seems out of the way for a lot of people. Interesting. It is fun to go in and see what he has in the store every so often.
proxmax Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 hmmmm, seems he is not that nice person - can't tell, never met him personally. people told me he's a bad prick! so no wonder, when sympathy ends........
