RJLII Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 As my personal employment outlook gets a little brighter I've had some bad GAS. I'm thinking a custom order Heritage would be just the medicine I need. Pondering all the variables has been fun, but I think I have it narrowed down to an H-555 with the following mods: - Extra Flamed Top in a faded sunburst. - Mahogany neck, rims, and back. - Cream binding & pickup rings. - Bound figured maple pickguard with traditional shape. Antique natural to match the binding. - Dark Rosewood fretboard with Trapezoid inlays. - G Style bridge and trapeze tailpiece. - Lollar Low Wind Imperial Humbuckers. - Locking Grover Tuners. Essentially I'm aiming to channel the vibe from a '59 Tiger Top into a 60's style thinline, with some modern conveniences. I'm thinking it will be a tone machine. If you had a clean sheet of paper, what would you do?
Thundersteel Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Mine would be the same, except for: 1. Either spalted maple or koa for the entire body (clear finish--no paint!) 2. No pickguard 2. Bound headstock with abalone logo and 555-style inlays all the way up (no blocks).
barrymclark Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Wow... hard one. Cause... there is more than one. If money wasn't the issue: Possibly a triple P90 H555 and possibly with a Bibsby/roller bridge and graphite nut/locking tuners. (the thing here is that it is thinner than my Gretsch and a semi-hollow.) So... far and away a different sound. I'd also want an H157. Not sure what I'd do with that mod wise though. If I were to get a 137, the changes would be more in the embellisment than anything.
JeffB Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 I just want a 535 with 555 inlays all the way up. Seth's. Bound head stock. Thats about it. Or another way to look at it would be a 555 with a rosewood fretboard and Seth's.
barrymclark Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Inspired by the NFH Millie... If I were to do the Milli, I'd want the NFH with a floating tailpiece. I have seen the one I'd want... but I can't recall where I had seen it. It looks like 'fingers' with one for each string and aren't all the same length. I THINK... I saw one on a Sweet 16. I'd also want the pickup switch to be moved to the upper horn. Prolly that trans blue I saw a recent 555 done up with. That was a great finish.
TruckbodyJones Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Mahogany neck sounds nice I don't know about the mahogany back though . I'd go with Seymour Duncan P-rails. Then you have the option of HBuckers or p-9o or single coils . I have one in mine and am either going to put one in the neck position also or a 59 .They sound great in the 535 ...
smurph1 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 WOW..If money were no option..Hmmmm...A natural 535, bound neck, ebony fingerboard, mahogany back and sides, and oh yes the most important part..Lollar P-90's..
AnH555 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Before going off the deep end I'd like a 150 in trans blackburst. MOP logo, ivory nut, belly cut. Chrome hardware, Seth Lovers, ebony board w/crowns (including the first fret). Stainless wide jumbo frets. Unbound wood pickguard in the case pocket. After I win the lotto jackpot.... 555 doubleneck! 5 piece maple neck on the 12, mahogany/rosewood for the 6. Lollar mini hums on the 12, HRW's for the 6. Extra w/b/w binding everywhere they come standard with only white. Finished like a blueburst only in wine red. Chrome hardware. Just somethin' for plinking around on on the couch.

AnH555 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 ...And I was picturing that doubleneck at the NAMM show, with Vince explaing " It's on loan - from the Henderson collection." Started to get dizzy thinking about a DOUBLE double-vip left handed version!
TruckbodyJones Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Truck, I'm not familiar with the Duncan P-trails: but do you mean one can switch to a P-90 sound and a single coil sound? Hi Erik , check out the Duncan site they can explain better than me . Basically it's a P-90 witha single coil beside it that takes up the space of a Humbucker . It can be used as a p-90 single coil or HB . Probably not as good as having three seperate pu but offers quite a diverse range of tones . I love mine ...but I also have three other guitars to choose from ...so it's not my only choice (I'm a 59 guy all the way normally) . I think they are pretty cool pu's hope this helps The Jones
SouthpawGuy Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Erik you might also want to check out YouTube, there are a few good demos out there. This is a link to the official Duncan video demo link to other demos http://www.youtube.com/results?search_quer..._type=&aq=f btw the guitar used in the Duncan demo is a Heritage H-170
shook494 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I've been jonesin for a nice simple Korina H137 with Lollar's in it lately. Those look so nice and clean. I wish I still had a P90 guitar in my hands. One day I'll be rich and I can get one of each Heritage.
