Anyone else switch out there nut on their Heritage? When I first got my H-555 in 2003 I believe, it was recommended to me that I switch out the plastic nut to bone--made a positive impact on the tone. I now have the guitar with the Feiten system, but it needs a set-up bad. In any case, anyone know if Heritage offers different nuts instead of plastic?

Hi Frank. The thing about Heritage is that they are, for all intents, a Custom Shop. They have their regular production line. But you can custom order your Heritage with just about any configuration you can think up. Within reason, that is. On my last order I asked for an arched back on my Millie NFH. Marv said no can do because of the construction. But for hardware, pickups, nuts, inlays ... things like that ... it's pretty much whatever you want. Thinking of custom ordering a new guitar? So far you've asked about necks and nuts. Classic sign of a guitar in the works! :o

I don't recall every reading of someone who had a bone nut installed at the factory.

My 140 is totally stock, but I've heard good things about tusq..It's a manmade ivory I believe..Some people like graphite as well..Especially if you bend a lot, or have a whammy bar..(which I'm guessing you don't)

My H-535 Special (now sold) came from the factory with a bone nut and TonePros hrdware, as did the 25th anniversary models.

Hi Frank,

I switched out the plastic nut just one week ago. Now it's a bone nut.

My H 555 now sounds again a little bit better than before. Don't expect dramatic changes, but overall all these changes do something good to the guitat.

I don't wanna bother the other members, but on my H 555, I changed so far the nut, the bridge and the tailpiece. All in all it makes it a better guitar.

Best

I got two Heritage's with bone nuts from the factory. $30 up charge!

I stand corrected. So who makes the bone nuts at the factory ?

30$ isn't bad if it's well done.

I ordered an H-150 through Jay with many options including a bone nut. I think it was $20.00 at the time. All of my guitars either came with or have been fitted with a bone nut. Huge difference in tuning stability. Tune right to pitch, no string binding in the nut slot, self lubricating. Well worth the money.

Every heritage I own now has a bone nut. It made a huge difference in mostly tuning but I could actually feel the neck get more resonant too.

My Taylor acoustic has something else on it but I swear that guitar never loses tune so whatever it is works good too.

$30 up-charge sounds like a deal to me, the tech I have working on my guitars charges $60 for a bone nut and he's very reasonable on his prices.

The last one I had done was in March and it was $45.00. I suppose it depends on where each person is located for prices. Cost of living varies and whether you have a tech that does work in their basement or has a store front. In either case a bone nut is worth the price.

The tech I use is top notch and is well known/respected in this area and works on a LOT of pro's guitars so there is often a wait, but he does have his own repair only shop, no retail. His work though is impeccable, which is why I use him.

I doubt I could hear a difference but I find a bone nut looks so much better than

the white plastic thing that comes stock.
