guitarsark Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Has anyone ever had a humbucker installed in their Sweet 16 (or any other archtop by heritage) replacing the floating pickup? I am considering having this done to mine and would appreciate any input.
Kuz Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Yep, many people have. From Heritage endorsees Kenny Burrell, Mimi Fox, Vince Lewis, ect... They are ordering or putting in a 4 point floating HRW humbucker pickup. I had it done to my Sweet 16 and it was a 300% improvement.
Steiner Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Kuz- you dropped the sepia! YEA! That 16 is, er, shall we say, Sweet!!!
High Flying Bird Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Kuz- you dropped the sepia! YEA! Yes, the white balance is perfect in these pics. It really makes the finish look so good.
guitarsark Posted July 29, 2009 Author Posted July 29, 2009 thanks for the response, a few questions: is that a floating pickup? did the top of the guitar have to be cut open to install it? did heritage do it or did you have someone else install it? I called Heritage today but no answer and have not heard back. I definitely want to have this done to my guitar. Yep, many people have. High Flying Bird Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 Guitarsark, call them early. They are on Eastern time plus they wake up the chickens they get up so early. If you call them after noon Central you probably won't get to talk to anyone.

Yes they had to cut out the top to make room for the humbucker. Yes I would only let Heritage do it, and they will only do it they won't just sell you the HRW humbucker. Call between 7:30-9:00AM EST M-TR

I see you have already decided to do it, but have to add my 2 cents here. It is hard to improve upon a great instrument, but you will be thrilled at the difference with the HRW. I have them on my 2 custom 16's, my 575 MH and my Golden Eagle. No loss of acoustice warmth, no feedback and a great tone that the floater just doesn't have. I have had several players ask me about this over the years, they have all gone for it, and all have been so glad they made the change. It will also increase the value of your guitar to players (not that you are going to ever give it up)..

I know it's late July, but this last Christmas your CD was the only one in my/family's car! Any new projects or albums out recently or in the works? Thanks, John
