Neanderthal Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Hey guys, what string gauge are you using on your H150? Having just bought mine, I think it came with 10s. Feels like 10s anyway. I usually use EB Heavy Bottom/Skinny Tops. I'd probably need a setup if I switched, dontcha think?

Kuz Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 10s for standard tuning except for my 525 where I use 11s. Yoslate played my guitars with 10s and called me a girly man. I guess he is 11s across the board for his electrics.

I strung my LP with HB/ST and didn't have to do a setup, though I wouldn't be surprised if I needed to tweak the truss rod soon. Thanks dudes!
jacques Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Indeed: 9s or 10s for the girls and 11s for the men I use GHS Boomers 11 - a little thicker, therefore more tone
yoslate Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Yoslate played my guitars with 10s and called me a girly man. I guess he is 11s across the board for his electrics. Yep! My 150 plays awfully well with .011's ( I go back and forth between D'Addario, DR's, and Boomers...right now, the D'Addarios), and I like to work just a bit for a note. I'm not a fan of "super low" action. I insist on .011's for hollow and semi-hollow bodies; once in a while I'll string the Super with .012's.! Kuz's 525, with the .011's, was a remarkable instrument! Played wonderfully and sounded even better! Ironically, on my maple board Tele and Strat, I prefer .010's.
Rude Dog Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 10s for me; D'Addario EXL110 Nickel - I try other brands every once in a while but always come back to these. 9s and 11s equals different tones to me. Bigger strings do not equal more tone to me. You might need a setup, or maybe just a little truss rod tweak after you've had your EB strings on for a while.
TalismanRich Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 On my 157, I go with the D'Adarrio EXL110s. Same on my 535. I've used the 110Ws with the wound 3rd on my DeArmond, but never tried them on the Heritages. Might be something to do. I like the boing of the wound G on a semi.
TalismanRich Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Indeed: 9s or 10s for the girls and 11s for the men I use GHS Boomers 11 - a little thicker, therefore more tone So I guess you didn't hear the story Ren was telling about John Sebastian with his 13s on his Golden Eagle. What does that make him? Maybe a pro wrestler or a linebacker? He did mention that he then detuned it a step, so I guess that might make him a girlie linebacker.
smurph1 Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I use Di'Adario 10s on my 140..I may try some 11's sometime, although the 10's sound great..
barrymclark Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Not a 150... but I used D'Addario 10's with a wound 3rd on my 140.
Millennium Maestro Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 my strings of choice for a 24 3/4 scale guitar is a 10-54 hybrid , 10's on the 3 high strings...11's on the lower 3 strings. I have thick and strong hands. M.M.
Kuz Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Vince Lewis uses 11s on his archtop and has an incredible full rich tone. Billy Gibbins uses 8s. Again, it's probably in the player's fingers.
Millennium Maestro Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 Oh by the way... change string gauge and Yes you will have to have your setup adjusted!!! intonation alters, truss rod changes position, sometime the nut becomes too tight.... M.M. Ps. My advise is if you like it as it is now...leave it!! Don't fix something not broken!
DC Ron Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 +1 for D'Adarrio EXL110s. Use them on Strats, too. Oops, am I allowed to say that?

barrymclark Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I use 11s. Everything under 10s is for girls ...and that is exactly what I am trying to attract. Whatcha figure you're gonna get with those 'man' strings?
golferwave Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 D'Addario 10's or 11's and SIT 10's. Depends on the instrument.
rooster Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 10-46 dropped down 1/2 step on 2 of my 150s, the third 150 uses 10-13-17-26-36-54 dropped 1/2 step with dropped D tuning. "DR Tite-Fit" on all of them. I've broken too many D'Addarios, although they do sound nice. I like the DRs just as much for sound and feel, but I don't break them. rooster.
High Flying Bird Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 "DR Tite-Fit" on all of them. I like the DRs just as much for sound and feel, but I don't break them.rooster. I use DR Pure Blues 10-46 on my electrics. Fantastic strings.
OldCrow Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 13 or 14s are the norm for me, in standard down a half step. Right now I have 12s on one of my 150s, the "not so slinky" set and am really liking them, even if they don't have a wound G The 14s are interesting, I take a 7 string set and just toss aside the high E
mark555 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 11's on my 555 and thinking of going to 12's - great tone and feel.
